"I’ve stayed in many hostels before and understand you sometimes get what you pay for, but my stay at Wake Up! Sydney Central was disappointing. We booked a private room for three with a shared bathroom. The room had a strong “slept-in” smell which seemed to come from the actual pillows and bedding rather than the sheets. The shared bathrooms were also quite dirty, and during our five-day stay I only saw them cleaned once. The kitchen on the first floor is far too small for the number of guests. Fridges and cupboards were completely full, and with only a few cooktops, sinks and microwaves it’s very difficult to cook or find a place to eat. The hostel is very focused on partying, with events like pizza nights and free drinks in the kitchen area. It’s also quite noisy, with partying and heavy doors slamming day and night, so don’t expect much sleep. Considering how expensive Sydney is, this place still felt overpriced. The building is run down (cracked sinks), beds have thin mattresses, and we even saw a large cockroach one day. Staff simply said, “this is Australia.” There’s also no ramp at the entrance, so heavy luggage has to be carried up the stairs. The only real positive is the great location."

"Nice hotel overall, enjoyed walking around the Rocks. But it’s very hilly and the Wynyard station is WAY MORE ACCESSIBLE than Circular Quay. Still, had to walk ~10min. There’s a nice rooftop view and bar. My room was right next to the bar where people talked loudly and played music, but the soundproofing is great, so it didn’t bother me. My roommates didn’t want to open windows at night and it was impossible to use the AC, so it felt extremely stuffy inside. I also previously stayed in a Japanese hostel, and I really liked the idea of separating storage and bathroom from a sleeping area there. In this hostel, if neighbours want to find something in their suitcase, it’s very noisy. Doors are noisy too and it’s impossible to close them quietly. Nice restaurant area, very spacious and there’s also the kitchen where you can cook/store food in a fridge. The door key can be added to Apple Wallet so it was very convenient."

"Sydney Central YHA was an excellent choice for my solo backpacking leg in Sydney after Melbourne. Right next to Central Station and light rail, it's unbeatable for airport trains, quick trips to the Opera House, Bondi Beach, or Chinatown eats—perfect for a student on the move. Private rooms (or dorms with privacy curtains) were clean, comfy with outlets per bed, and secure lockers (bring padlock). Rooftop pool offered city views for evening swims, plus a massive kitchen, cinema room, and social BBQs—great vibe without chaos. Friendly staff gave spot-on tips; minor cons like occasional bathroom queues or street noise didn't detract. Super value at ~$40/night—9.5/10, will return!"

"They have heater inside the rooms. Could get warm but it’s good when you are not used to a very cold weather. Nice amenities. Free staple simple breakfast. But people can be noisy at night. Toilets need more cleaning maintenance in a day cos people who use it could be so careless."
