"The location of Great Southern Hotel is very centrally located, it is 1 min walk to the Haymarket Tram Stop which takes you directly to Circulr Quay where most of the tourist attractions are. Apart from the amazing location, the staff were all very friendly, professional and accomodating, even providing us early check in and late checkout. The room itself is slightly dated but extremely clean so we had no issues with it at all. The elevators are surprisingly modern and fast for an older hotel which was great. We did not find any issues with the lack of housekeeping as we were aware of what we paid for. We were able to get additional change of towels, toiletries, trash bags etc. from the front desk with no issues at all. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for it is amazing value for the price."

"It’s was an okay experience, everything was alright but staff were not very knowledgeable about the hotel. I asked if there was a freezer I could store my food in and both of the receptionist said no. I also ask if they could store it for me and they said they didn’t have one. When I go up to the room, they have the freezer. Also TV connection for Netflix or YouTube most likely won’t work. Connection is unstable. Breakfast is okay but not too many options. When I ask the two receptionist for umbrella , they say the hotel don’t have umbrella for the guests at all, which I think is odd. Decent stay but value for money is so so, rooms were a bit too small as well."

"I only stayed 1 night in Sydney and arrived early morning, they won’t let you in till it’s check in time which is at 2pm and totally understand that. So I waited at the lobby seating area. However, other guests who arrived at 1pm managed to get in their room directly. They also called other guests who were early and waited with me but I only get to my room at 2.30pm. Otherwise, the hotel is great for layovers and if you have an early flight next day. Access to city is easy too as the train is just across the road."

"Great location, nearby King Cross train station, nice and lovely hotel in old fashioned house on a quite street. Not far away from Sydney centre, opera and royal garden. But unfortunately saw cockroaches twice in a bathroom :( and maybe overpriced, but this is always in Sydney"

"We stayed for 4 nights as a couple. The staff at reception were kind and let us check in early at 10am instead of 2pm, which we really appreciated. The location is convenient for exploring Sydney. However, the room was quite dated and very noisy, we could constantly hear traffic from the street as well as doors slamming and people talking in the hallway. At times, even late in the evening around 11pm, there were strange noises that seemed to come from the elevators or pipes, even though our room was far from the elevators (which we appreciated as it was our request). Housekeeping was disappointing: during our entire stay (4 nights) the floor was never vacuumed, and the bed was only roughly made, the sheets were just pulled up without being changed or properly arranged. The bathroom was the biggest issue. After every shower, the whole floor got flooded because there was no proper divider between the shower and the rest of the bathroom. The floor was uneven, so the water stayed in the middle of the room until the cleaners came the next morning. It made it very inconvenient to use the bathroom, as even just washing your hands meant getting your feet wet."

"I stayed at devere hotel for many many years and occasionally is for business and study likewise as the room is very cosy, clean and quiet so I can focus and concentrate during stay a late night as is more peaceful environment surround with plants, with neighbourhoods and restaurants bar with entertainment nearby. It is close by walking and feel safer if u walk alone at night. The size of room is very reasonable depends the number of guests and different rate tailored from what you need and want with your own budget. "The hotel isn’t great location with around 5 mins walking distance to the Central station, very easy access to the CBD and other places with options the public transport. There are lots of restaurants nearby. But be aware that there is no slippers, dental kits and bottled water provided. Overall, it’s a good choice for travelers."

"I’ve stayed in many hostels before and understand you sometimes get what you pay for, but my stay at Wake Up! Sydney Central was disappointing. We booked a private room for three with a shared bathroom. The room had a strong “slept-in” smell which seemed to come from the actual pillows and bedding rather than the sheets. The shared bathrooms were also quite dirty, and during our five-day stay I only saw them cleaned once. The kitchen on the first floor is far too small for the number of guests. Fridges and cupboards were completely full, and with only a few cooktops, sinks and microwaves it’s very difficult to cook or find a place to eat. The hostel is very focused on partying, with events like pizza nights and free drinks in the kitchen area. It’s also quite noisy, with partying and heavy doors slamming day and night, so don’t expect much sleep. Considering how expensive Sydney is, this place still felt overpriced. The building is run down (cracked sinks), beds have thin mattresses, and we even saw a large cockroach one day. Staff simply said, “this is Australia.” There’s also no ramp at the entrance, so heavy luggage has to be carried up the stairs. The only real positive is the great location."

"Having had the opportunity of staying at a few other four seasons around the world and the sydney branch felt abit lacking. Service was straightforward at best. Shower screen had gaps where water leaked to the floor during a shower but was informed it always has been."
