"Absolutely loved our stay at Shangri-La! From the moment you arrive, you can feel the high level of service and attention to detail. The hotel truly lives up to its reputation — everything was exceptional. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable, and we were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade, which made our stay even more special. The breakfasts were outstanding — a great variety, fresh products, and even pineapple, which we hadn’t seen in any other hotels during our 10 days across China. The view from the hotel is stunning, and the location is very convenient. There’s a mall right next door, and The Bund is within walking distance, which was perfect for exploring. No complaints at all — truly a luxurious and memorable stay. Highly recommend!"

"We had an awesome stay!! Winnie checked us in and she was so patient and friendly! She upgraded our room and asked if we need a late check out which is really sweat of her. "Vauvan kanssa matkustaessani halusin mennä kävelykadulle ja Bundille. Halusin myös olla riittävän lähellä metroasemaa, ja minulla on hyvä näköala, mikä tärkeintä niitä. KK/CStaff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The best affordable hotel to stay at when visiting Disney. The room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was Chinese, but fresh and tasty. Our daughter loved the rabbits in the garden. They offer a shuttle service to and from Disney and you can hire a big stroller from the hotel. I would definitely recommend to stay here!

WwalkingworldStayed in this hotel for around a week - overall great experience given the price. Location is one of the best in Shanghai - it’s across the road from line 1 and 7, which gets you to many attractions, and it’s one of the subway stations that are easier to navigate too - you can go towards huaihai road, and xintiandi, or you can go back, into xuhui district and explore meiluocheng, or you can go across to jingan temple, and along there. Furthermore, it’s a very short walk from some of the trendier shops on anfulu and so on. I have stayed numerous times in Shanghai now and it is difficult to top this location regardless of hotel pricing/prestige. I barely took the taxi my stay here, as it is also on some nearby bus lines.
I had a room with a view, which was lovely indeed. The toilets are very very clean as they are disinfected after pretty much every use, and the washroom facilities are decent too, but slightly dated and the water pressure is mediocre.
The room is very small - I personally am fine with tiny capsule-esque hotels but my luggage (26inch) was difficult to open fully and still have space to sit and walk, which is one thing that makes me carefully reconsider staying here again. Another thing is that there is one lift for this hotel which is on the higher floors, which means waiting for the lift can take a while too, especially if you order food and go to collect it on floor 18, but then you have to wait for the lift to go down and up again if you live on floor 17 or 19.
Overall, for the price paid, experience is pretty good.

SShanghai based coupleAs a couple who has lived in Shanghai together for almost 10 years, with one of us also Shanghainese, we have been to a lot of the best places in Shanghai, and some of the more recommended places in about 20 cities in the broader nearby area. Nothing in the city or within several hours of high-speed rail compares to a stay at Ritz-Carlton Pudong. In Asia and indeed the planet, this impeccable hotel experience stands as an iconic example of old-world elegance and service. In addition, it also offers a unique view of both some of the most modern and tallest buildings and the city’s famed Bund riverside, home to a variety of art deco architectural masterpieces.
We had the incredible good fortune to start our honeymoon at the Ritz in Pudong, and this last stay was our last honeymoon treat. As always, it was a spectacular experience that we cannot recommend enough.
The most extraordinary part of the stay really is the staff, they are all world class people who go above and beyond to make the Ritz-Carlton Pudong such an exceptional institution in one of the world’s leading cities.
Sincere thanks to the whole team for making this happen, including Cherryl, who made reservation delightfully effortless, Chris who helped us to our room, and Joey and Ruby who helped in the evening.

Last but not least, Helen, who was the first person to greet us after we got married, and fittingly the last person to help us create personalised room key cards with our wedding photo on it, and most recently a special photo of family from our honeymoon. Those keycards are really cool keepsakes, but making them is not as simple as you might think: the image is etched into the key, not printed, so the original photo needs to be translated by AI into an image that the etching system is capable of delivering, which is really impressive. When I showed my mom who lives very far away, even she was impressed with Helen’s work.
Ordinarily we prioritise new experiences over more of the same, regardless of how comfortable and nice it is. But regardless of how hard we try, we have not been able to figure out a better way to celebrate our biggest moments than a stay at the Ritz in Pudong.

The hotel is clean, modern, and well-maintained. Rooms are spacious enough for a family stay, and everything was tidy and comfortable. Housekeeping was consistent every day, which made our stay even more enjoyable.
One of the biggest advantages is the location — it’s quite convenient, especially if you are planning to visit Shanghai Disneyland. The hotel also provides a calm and family-friendly environment, which is important when traveling with kids.
The staff were polite and helpful, even though English communication was sometimes limited, they still tried their best to assist us.
Breakfast was decent with a variety of options, though it could be slightly improved for international guests.
Overall, it’s a good value for money hotel, especially for families. We had a comfortable and peaceful stay and would consider coming back again.

We celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary there, and the team made it incredibly special for us. They thoughtfully decorated our room and surprised us with cakes and fruits as a kind gesture. We truly appreciated the effort — it made our celebration even more memorable.
Our room was spacious, beautifully maintained, and offered breathtaking views of the city skyline. We especially loved the in-room mini pool — the highlight of our stay was simply relaxing and enjoying a bath while taking in the view.
Tales Rooftop Bar was another standout experience. It’s the perfect place to appreciate the stunning city and river views while enjoying drinks. They offer both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, and we were pleasantly surprised with complimentary snacks as well.
Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of Western and Chinese options. Aside from the buffet selection, guests can also order freshly prepared dishes like noodles and eggs, which are served hot — a wonderful touch.
The staff were incredibly professional, welcoming, and attentive throughout our stay. They made us feel valued and were always ready to assist with a warm smile. The overall ambiance of the hotel is peaceful and relaxing, making it a perfect retreat despite being in a vibrant city like Shanghai.
We highly recommend Banyan Tree Shanghai and look forward to returning in the future.

JJanie NgI am writing to lodge a formal complaint regarding my recent stay at your hotel. The room I received was completely inconsistent with the photos and description shown during my online booking.
I specifically booked a red-themed twin room with a central Bund view, and I even informed the hotel in advance that I preferred a high floor. However, upon arrival, I was assigned a room on the 8th floor, with a yellow-themed design and an edge-side view. From this room, two-thirds of the view was blocked by buildings, and only a small portion of the river could be seen — and even that was only visible when standing close to the window. The Oriental Pearl Tower view was almost entirely hidden.
When I raised this issue with the staff, they denied any discrepancy and claimed that the only twin rooms available were in the yellow design, which clearly contradicts the photos shown during booking. I paid extra to upgrade to a Bund view, and it is unacceptable that I was initially placed in a room with such a limited and obstructed view.
Only after I became very firm with my complaint did the staff agree to change my room to a double room with the proper central Bund view. This entire process wasted over one hour of my time, involved unnecessary waiting, and demonstrated poor service handling, especially for a hotel that claims to be five-star.

FFrequent.travelerThe Grand Central Hotel Shanghai is located next to Nanjing road so it’s very central. The decoration of the hotel looks a bit outdated which lots of golden colors and palm trees in the lobby. Upon my arrival the concierge staff helped to take out my luggage from the car and as we were walking inside he wanted to store my luggage and telling me that check in was at 2pm. I arrived at 12pm. I told him I will go to the reception first and brought my luggage with me. The receptionist checked my booked and said the room isn’t ready and asked me to wait. As I was very tired I asked how long I need to wait and he said until 2pm. I asked if I could perhaps double check at 1 pm and he said ok. I checked again at 1pm and the room wasn’t ready. Finally I got the room at about 1:40. The room size was good and the maintenance of the room was ok although a bit worn out but the decoration looks very outdated and makes the room look more old. Moreover, they had some old brochures in the room which doesn’t really apply to today’s needs such as an old Shanghai yellow pages catalogue etc. Furthermore, there was two bottles of water in the room with tags and on the tag it was clearly stated that only two bottles of water is provided per day per room and additional water bottles will be charged at 10RMB per bottle. I think this makes the hotel seem stingy, supposedly stating that it’s a five star hotel. Haven’t encountered this at hotels with lower star ratings that I stayed at. Another issue was that the HBO channel on the TV didn’t work and that was the only foreign channel on the tv for movies so perhaps international travelers wouldn’t have much to watch. My stay was so so.. the most positive aspect being the central location.
