"Our stay at this hostel in Nikko was incredible, and the hostess was the heart of it. She warmly welcomed us with perfect advice for visiting the local sights and a very useful bus map. She thoroughly explained how everything worked, making us feel at home immediately. The balanced breakfast she prepared was delicious and gave us great energy for exploring. Her kind gesture of gifting us origami for a safe journey truly touched our hearts. She is an exceptional host who creates a special, personal experience. "Location is special, we liked being in a forest by a stream and it was possible to walk to town. The place is old fashioned, simple small room, the bathroom needs more cleaning. Nice little onsen, all full of character. The owner is very kind, and the meals were excellent."

"Convenient place just across Tobu Nikko station. For one night we had all we needed in our twin room, which was like a studio: private bathroom, kitchen corner with microwave, kettle, sink and fridge (no kitchen amenities), balcony with view. Heating and heated blanket did their job in the cold night. There’s a Supermarket and a Laundry service close by. The hotel needs for sure some maintenance and insulation can be improved as it was very cold. The only way to get to upper floors is by elevator, as I tried using the stairs but they were blocked by piles of sheets, which is not ideal as there should be emergency exits! Not really a budget accommodation compared to other places I stayed in Japan and for the standard offered."

"Most of the reviews are outdated so I thought I'd give an updated review. For one thing, there is WiFi (I have informed the landlady that the website indicates otherwise). This place is a traditional-style inn. You'll be sleeping in a futon (some Google-fu should help you know how to use one), use two pairs of slippers (one for moving around the house, one exclusively for the toilet) and will also bathe in a Japanese-style shared bathroom. The front gate and bathroom close at 10pm, which is not an issue as everywhere in Nikko closes early and it's too dark to hike outdoors (in early Autumn). We loved using the onsen to relax after a day of strolling around and hiking, and the delicious Japanese-style breakfast was lovingly prepared by a friendly old granny. The premises are old but well-maintained. Toilets, bathroom and onsen were great but we were there during off-peak season so we didn't need to share so much. Should we return to Nikko, this place will be our first choice!"

"First off, do not trust Google Maps for directions. The directions take you up the alley behind the hotel. The hotel opens on the main street (Hwy. 119 is what Maps indicates). This is an absolutely great little hotel, well located, clean and everything about the hotel I noticed, well looked after. It has a small, functional onsen that I used. I was in their hostel section, a single bed, capsule style. A little tough for a creaky, bad knees, old person like me but a great stay. They have a small, affordable breakfast buffet (Oriental-style) for purchase that is decent with a variety of different dishes. And they have a machine that dispenses excellent, fresh coffees and other beverages. It is a 2-star hotel and I will give it a 5 star rating as a 2 star hotel. Very good little hotel."

"Nice hotel. Close to the station. There is several stores nearby. Late check in possible. Quite spacious room for Japan. Beautiful view from the window. Recommend to stay here"

"The guesthouse is quite a way from Nikko town (10-15 mins by bus / 1 hour walk) but is in a good location for getting to the shrines or to Lake Ashi - there's a bus stop close by. The guesthouse was homely and had 2 private onsen. Our room was comfortable enough although the en-suite was very tiny! The host was welcoming but didn't speak any English which meant we had to communicate by translating on our phones. We booked to have breakfast at the guesthouse, but didn't realise that for booking the dinner we needed to give 24 hours+ notice so missed out!"

"Erinomainen hinta-suhde hotelli parhaan logistiikan saatat saada Kinugawa. Varusteet puutarha on tuoretta, palvelu on huippuluokka. Meille on erotettu, mutta se on vain yksi kylpyhuone, joka on odotettavissa pienistä hotelleista. Ainoa pieni häirintä, jonka voit kohtata, on myöhäinen yömelu, joka tulee avoimista ovista. Kokonaiskokemus oli erinomainen, valitsen tämän paikan uudelleen."

"The place is a 25-30 minute walk from the Tobu Nikko station, but you can actually take bus going there. However we didn't know the buses only run until 3 in the afternoon so we had no choice but to walk an uphill road. However it was a very fun experience and the hike was worth it as soon as we were able to take a rest in this humble pension house. The owner was very accommodating, gave us strawberry ice cream and even offered us a ride to the station the next morning. I would say that this place gave us the best definition of ”omotenashi”. Someday when we go back in Nikko , we'll surely stay here once again."
