Highly Recommended Stay in Kyoto I would like to strongly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Kyoto. The staff demonstrate exceptional professionalism and hospitality. In particular, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Miss Yuki, who assisted us with our check-in and kindly introduced many wonderful sightseeing spots and activities in Kyoto, as well as to Miss Tsai, a ********* staff member who supported us during check-out with great warmth and care. Their thoughtful service truly reflects the welcoming spirit of Kyoto and the hotel’s commitment to excellence. I am genuinely impressed by the quality of the team members who bring guests happiness and satisfaction through their dedication. They truly deserve recognition and applause for their outstanding service. Our two-night stay was far too short, and we are already looking forward to returning in the near future.

Quite, clean and cosy room. Conveniently located within walking distance to the shopping street. Hotel is also well furnished with complete amenities and provided extra bed for my kid. Service was great too! Also within walking distance to the nearby subway. Overall an enjoyable stay!

Potel Umokoji Kyoto redefines what a hotel offers its guests. Firstly, the location is unique, an easy 5 min walk from the station ( Umokoji Kyotonishi) and 3 min train ride to the center of Kyoto. Yet this convenience is coupled with its location adjoining a large wooded park which some guest rooms overlook - a special and calm outlook right in the city centre. Rooms are large by Japan standards and both the Japanese style rooms ( super comfy ) and more traditional Western styled rooms offer a Scandanavian/ Japanese decor style which is both modern and uncluttered. In addition, guest services on offer include complementary DIY fresh brewed coffee and in the evenings, complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks . Can be taken either to your room with balcony overlooking parklands or in the guest book or music library, both offering a calm respite from a sometimes frenetic Kyoto CBD. Unique, special and largely overlooked by tourist group bookings, the Potel Umokoji manages to offer the ambience and guest experiences that many mass tourism venues have lost. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

I stayed at your hotel from January and am submitting this formal complaint regarding the unacceptable behavior of front desk staff member Mr. Wu. Immediately after check-in, our room key did not work. Mr. Wu dismissed our concern without checking and repeatedly insisted the problem was ours, not the card. Only after visible irritation and reluctance did he come upstairs, where it was confirmed the key was faulty. No apology was offered. Despite being informed that parking fees would be settled at checkout, approximately one hour after check-in (around 4:00 PM), Mr. Wu called our room while we were resting and demanded we come down because the parking fee had not been paid. This felt accusatory and deeply inappropriate. Additionally, when asking a simple question about which parking card to use, Mr. Wu responded with audible sighs and a condescending attitude. This conduct is entirely incompatible with professional hospitality standards. I expect this matter to be taken seriously and appropriate disciplinary action to be taken.

Big room. Clean. Polite and helpful staff. Breakfast good especially the Japanese one. Would be better if more attention to recycling and environment, and cut down use of one off accessories.

Superb experience in Nohga. Everything here has been curated very carefully, you can tell the people or group behind this whole hotel concept really put in so much thought for their guests. Absolutely loved my entire stay here. I eat breakfast at their bakery every morning. Love their customisable bagels, mortadella sandwich, salted bun and cinnamon mochi donut. Chocolate mochi donut was a little too sweet. Americano and matcha latte were great. Thoroughly enjoyed their rooftop bar every night (opens till 12am). Awesome vibes, very romantic atmosphere. Staff are sweet, gives heat packs and blankets to keep us warm. Warm cocktails are a must during winters. You can order any random cocktails and they all taste so good. The distance from the train station to this hotel is quite a distance but I think the overall experience you get in this hotel makes the walk a worthwhile one. Def recommending this hotel to my friends who wanna come to Kyoto.

Everything was good except the service in hotel restaurants, which was exceptionally bad: 1) breakfast: waited for food for 40 mins, reminded the server 2 times - still nothing; 2) bar: a too long wait for a cocktail. the server said that as apology said cocktail won’t be in included in the bill… but it was there; 3) afternoon tea: told the staff that I dislike dairy products, but have no allergy. So, for example I can eat most sweets, but not the ones with a strong taste of mascarpone cream. In the end they gave me just a plate of fruit and when I remninded them of the above they… did nothing ) I stayed at this hotel and had afternoon tea there last year too - everything was fine then. All of the above are 3 different restaurants inside the hotel, so I wouldn’t recommend going to any restaurant there. In all other aspects except services related to food the hotel is good.

Kengo Kuma’s architectural brilliance, with its use of natural wood, thoughtful lighting, and integration of art pieces, creates a stunning and serene atmosphere. Additionally, the comfort of the rooms, the quality of the materials, the size of the beds, and the premium linens were truly impressive. In terms of design and comfort, your hotel sets a remarkable standard. However, I did encounter several service-related issues that I believe could be addressed to enhance the overall guest experience. I would like to share these points in the hope that they are helpful for future improvements: 1. Breakfast Lounge and Sushi Area: The proximity of these two areas creates a strong odor upon entering, which can be unpleasant. Improved ventilation could easily mitigate this issue. 2. Food and Beverage Service After Breakfast: The lack of food and beverage service after breakfast hours was inconvenient. At the very least, providing a space for guests to enjoy tea or coffee would be a welcome addition. 3. Room Service Availability: After a long journey, I was surprised to learn that room service was unavailable and that only rice balls could be provided. Expanding room service options would greatly improve the guest experience. 4. Flexibility with Breakfast Hours: Due to the time difference, I arrived slightly late for breakfast at 10:10 AM and was informed that nothing could be served. Even my request for tea did not receive a clear response. Greater flexibility in accommodating guests dealing with jet lag would be highly appreciated. 5. Lobby Services: The inability to offer anything to drink or even host a guest in the lobby felt restrictive. This could be improved to make the lobby a more welcoming space. 6. Spa Experience: I was unable to experience the renowned Banyan Tree spa as it was fully booked. Expanding spa reservation availability would help meet guest expectations for this signature offering. In summary, while the hotel excels in design and comfort, the service offerings seem to be constrained by rigid rules and limited hours, which can detract from the overall guest experience. I strongly believe that adopting a more flexible, guest-centered approach would significantly enhance satisfaction. If the above issues were addressed, I would certainly consider staying at your hotel again during my next visit to Kyoto. I had a great stay at RIHGA Gran Kyoto Hotel. The location is extremely convenient — it’s just a short walk from Kyoto Station, which you can easily reach directly from Kansai International Airport via the Haruka Express. This made traveling with luggage very hassle-free. There are two convenience stores located near the hotel, which is perfect for quick snacks, drinks, or last-minute necessities. There’s also a shopping mall right next to the hotel, making it easy to shop, dine, or relax without having to travel far. For those driving, there are three parking lots nearby, which is very convenient and stress-free. Overall, the hotel offers excellent accessibility, great surrounding facilities, and a comfortable stay. Highly recommended!
