I would highly recommend someone who is visiting Edinburgh to stay there because it’s closer to the town. It’s very affordable and and one of the best places to be around very close to the Dean village as well."

"The location of this hotel is good, close to the sight seeing points at the city center, and near to stops of buses and trams. Good to go to the nearby Calton Hill to have a panoramic view of the city. However, there are steps at the entrance of the hotel, and few steps on every level even after taking a lift, so, be careful when you have heavy / large lugguages."

"Kick Ass Greyfriars is absolutely spotless one of the cleanest hostels I’ve stayed in! I felt completely safe throughout my stay. The bathrooms were well-kept and fresh, and the reception desk staff were so nice and welcoming. Would definitely recommend! Solo or with friends & family book without doubt. ."

"Definitely worth the slight awkwardness of crawling into capsule-pod from foot end for greater privacy (curtain, individual light, useful narrow shelf) and quieter night's sleep, and the bathroom has adequate facilities – toilet, two each of basins and well-designed shower cubicles – for up to eight (two four-bed rooms): a bargain in comparison with usual central Edinburgh prices… and, if not using the well-equipped kitchen, the back entrance to a Wetherspoon pub is next door, barely a dozen steps away!"

"Small room and no heating, but the coffee machine saved my mornings and the shower was fantastic. About 20 minutes by taxi from the airport - not exactly a stroll, but the pub food more than makes up for it, all homemade and fresh."

"Location: Very conveniently located right across a couple of bus stops and also a few steps away from Ocean Terminal tram stop. The Oean Terminal has a few well known brand outlets which we did not visit but if you have nothing else to do, it could be a nice way to spend your time. Also the Royal Britannia Yacht is right there. Cleanliness and facilities: just as expected from IHG, very clean and also the facilities that we wanted: luggage storage, a simple bar/ restaurant and hot breakfast. Nothing extraordinary but absolutely essential. Note: scrambled eggs could be better. Service: OK, as expected. We had already sent a note saying we were going to arrive between 1 AM and 1:30 AM, and when we came to the reception around 1:15 AM, they promptly delivered the keys and on the inside of the card was written ”no show”. Which means the reception doing the night shift never saw our note and had already marked us as possible ”no show”. It did not hurt us, but I did not like the fact they never read our note, it shows the impersonal nature of their service. Therefore I deducted one star. Note: The cranberry tea is a nice selection. It helped my headache. Thanks."

"Great alternative hotel for someone traveling in Edinburgh, the 43 bus take you straight from city center to the hotel. There's McDonalds and M&S Food Hall near the hotel."

"An extremely comfortable and pleasant room to stay. What I liked most: a big bed, carpeting, long couch, many sockets, tea set, many towels and hygiene supplies, thermostat, big windows. However, there was one thing I didn't really get - the shower unit is not supposed to be closed completely. It's like half open and that is why some water can splash to the bathroom floor. The location is pretty good, it is not in the very centre but you can easily walk there in about 15 minutes. The breakfast was excellent, it had traditional notes but still homelike, very delicious, and the selection was vast. And after all, the price was acceptable, so I can strongly recommend the hotel:)"
