"The hotel is in need of a complete refurbishment. There is peeling window frames and wallpaper and the lifts don't work - not for the old and infirm. The room we were given was on the second floor and we were told it was overlooking the Castle which we couldn't see through dirty windows. Its a shame really as the hotel is very much part of Cardiff's history but you get the impression that the owners are just making-do presumably because the cost of bringing the hotel up to date will cost millions - sorry won't be back"

"Ontbijt is matig, ze konden niet alles aanvullen soms was iets gewoon op! Vieze scrambeld eggs, duidelijk gemaakt van eipoeder, geen gekookte eieren of gebakken ei. Kamers en gebouw smoezelig. Warme kamers, gelukkig stond er een zeer stoffige ventilator. Personeel heel vriendelijk."

"The hotel is located in a very nice area where it’s easy to get a taxi or walk anywhere within the town. However, the mobile signal was quite weak, and the hotel Wi-Fi kept disconnecting - I had to log in again every time, which was quite inconvenient when trying to work. The room had a strong smell of rubber or leather, which made me feel sick and gave me a headache throughout my stay. The shower drainage didn’t work properly - no other drainage hole in the bathroom, and it eventually overflowed. I had to call the maintenance team to fix it. After lying on the bed for a short while, I noticed red, itchy patches on my face, almost like insect bites. I later found out that strong detergent used in washing the bedding can sometimes cause skin irritation. That night, I slept with a clean towel over the pillow and asked for fresh bedding the next day. Although my companion didn’t have any issues, I’d recommend anyone with sensitive skin to cover the pillow with a clean towel just in case. Overall, the services provided by the hotel were not bad, but the condition of the room and the reliability of the Wi-Fi definitely need improvement."

"I stayed here for 2 nights and had such a great time. The hotel is in a strategic location in the city centre, very close to many stores, restaurants, and pubs. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was decent, and the room had good amenities, though it was a bit congested. Thankfully, I was staying alone, so it wasn’t an issue. There’s no parking available at the hotel, so if you’re travelling by car, I recommend parking at Cardiff Central Train Station Carpark, it’s just a 2-minute walk and reasonably priced."

"This new hotel is very clean and perfect location except the door lock is not working properly.  It is not perfectly fit and the room except to pull harder to lock it.  Besides, the room has no telephone which causes inconvenience if you need help. I spent an hour to keep going down to look for help several times.  I suggest the hotel could leave a note of the front desk phone.number for the clients convenience 🙏🙏"

"I’m so glad we decided to stay at The Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff. I’d been given the very important job of finding a place to stay overnight for my friend’s special birthday. I didn’t really know where to start, so I compared prices of hotels in the area. I was surprised to find that the ‘budget’ hotels Premier Inn and Travelodge were no cheaper than The Coal Exchange for the given dates! I had a look at the photos and reviews and it looked perfect for a special occasion. It was steeped in history with the interior design staying true to the period in which it was built. Originally, as there were five of us, I had booked the sextuplet room. It looked amazing and we were all really excited about staying there. Unfortunately though, due to maintenance work being carried out on that part of the building, we had to change our plans to three double rooms right next to each other. The rooms were beautiful. Floor to ceiling double windows, opulent wallpaper, ornate period furniture and a lovely comfortable centrepiece bed. The bathrooms had gorgeous jacuzzi baths and stone basins. The following morning we had a delicious breakfast in Culley’s Restaurant situated inside the Coal Exchange. The staff here are very friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have the best stay. Can’t wait to go back."

"Decent hotel, centrally located close to the train station making it a very convenient place to stay. Staff very welcoming and took into account my special request and booked me a quiet room which was appreciated. Breakfast, nothing special, just like any other hotel breakfast in the uk. Good views at the breakfast area, staff on hand to help and often going out of their way to help. Service was 10/10. Rooms themselves felt a little old and could do with a touch up but comfy enough for a short stay! Coffee machine too!"

"Visited here for NYE for a couple of days in cardiff with close friends and it was amazing and we all loved it. Hotel was clean, staff were super friendly and helpful and the amenities were great and got plenty of use from our party (pool,spa etc). 99/100% we will definitely be returning! Thankyou amd happy new years ! 🙌👏"

"Location is superb. A few mins walk if coming by coach. Located in Cardiff centre. Super convenient from banking, shopping to F&B. Happening street. 10mins walk or so if going to Cardiff Central train station. Good security where u need room access card to enter each floor room and also into hotel building which is inside an arcade after 7pm. Friendly n helpful staff. Clean n spacious room different furniture configuration for our 2 rooms booked. . Clean n new towels. AC room with mini fridge n a safe deposit box but mind isn't working though. Complementary Welcome drinks n snack in mini bar which only found out later on upon inquiry of Mineral water. Laminated floor which is a super point for us due to hygienic reason. Bathrobes provided bathroom will get wet easily coz without a door. . Toiletries n disposal slippers provided upon request. Body lotion, body wash, hair shampoo n conditioner provided. House keeping should be more thorough. Wastebin in bathroom not emptied for our 3days stay. Used cups not replaced with new ones at all. Sachets of drinks also not filled up. Overall, Satisfied n will come back again.."
