My first Christmas on a coach tour for a number of years. The staff and management were superb - friendly, professional and eager to please. The room was spacious and comfortable and the bathroom superb. A Christmas card and gift awaited on arrival. The food was superb, particularly the Christmas lunch. A hot drink and seasonal pastry awaited us on our return from our days out. The public areas are cosy and full of sofas. These could do with renovating as they are very low and need respringing - a minor criticism which did not spoil our enjoyment. The owner could learn something about customer service from his staff. Thank you for an enjoyable Christmas.

Not a great start when we got there someone had booked us in for the 31st January instead of the 31st of December no idea how they managed it because at the time of booking they asked if we would be joining them for New Year’s Eve dinner. So the garden room we wanted was booked so we had to mess around going in one room for one night and move to another room for the next. Everything after that was just nice however must say all the staff are a credit to the hotel nothing too much trouble and very helpful and polite.

Nice lication Free parking friendly staff nice clean room the dinner could do with improving the fish and chips the fish had too much batter the chef needs to put less batter more batter than fish the breakfast nice but it hey had no favoured yoghet

Great place to stay Great place to stay, pleasant staff, decent food and drink. Withing walking distance of lake Windermere.

Would stay again! Great experience staying in a Cabin. Lovely staff on arrival and for dinner service. Great food, and awesome to have breakfast delivered one morning for a reasonable add-on price. Would have been nice to know that the steam room was out of action prior to stay, but as we had the private hot tub with the Cabin this didn't impact our enjoyment of the stay

How disappointing. We fancied a new year getaway to the Lake District so researched for somewhere with good facilities as we would be travelling by train. Newby Bridge advertises dining facilities plus bar and bar dining, spa, and room service This is all very important as the hotel is not in a town or particularly close to other options and we just wanted to chill whilst being able to do some work, particularly as we were both getting over a bad bout of flu. Sadly it all went downhill from the start . When checking in on Sunday I asked about breakfast in the room for the next morning (as advertised) and was told that was not possible as they can’t do that when they are ‘a bit busy ‘. Apparently i could try phoning down in the morning to see what was available… The next morning I just went down myself and grabbed a plate of fried eggs …. Later on Monday , we asked about food in the bar, to be told that the kitchen was not open until 5.30. And they had no availability anyway for the rest of the day. I said we are staying here , what else can we do ? After some discussions the manageress said I can book you for 8.30 as we are very busy before then . At this time the bar had 4 tables occupied, the bar dining area had 2 tables occupied, no one had food though . Drinks service at bar was also glacially slow even though it was only half full. We waited and waited in the lounge area, then asked again around 7, to be told ‘we have a table of 8 and a table of 14 due so are very busy ‘ . Again I checked , no one was actually being served food still …. Including in the hotel dining room although 2 tables were occupied. On questioning further as to why we couldn’t get food , I was told to ‘check their terms and conditions!’ I asked if they did room service - ‘oh yes we do room service’ ‘great, please can I have some room service then ?’ ‘Oh no , we can’t do that as we are a bit busy !’ If you are running a hotel which advertises certain services including the provision of food, it’s a very poor show if you can’t provide this if 2 tables makes you ‘a bit busy ‘ At no time did anyone actually apologise for the lack of service or facilities, it seemed to be our fault for expecting too much . We gave up and went to our room very disappointed and hungry. We had booked a 5 night stay but really couldn’t face more arguments over poor service and lack of food particularly as it was New Year’s Eve the next day so researched and found some other hotels with availability about 30 minutes away. The next morning we checked out saying we wanted to leave due to the poor service and facilities. The manageress still couldn’t bring herself to apologise for the situation, stressed how busy they were, but did agree to refund the unused nights. Think she was glad to see us go. Moral of the story is - if you run a hotel and are busy so can’t provide advertised services then get more staff. Failing that, apologise and don’t make your customers feel like they are a nuisa

We had a lovely stay, but the place could do with a little TLC. The ‘spa’ area could definitely do with deep cleaning and updating. It didn’t feel ‘fresh’ at all and was very tired. The staff on reception were great, but the bar/waiting staff seemed a little standoffish at times. Breakfast was okay. We had to constantly ask for things to be ‘topped up’. No one seemed to use their initiative, and they’d run out of several things. We would however return if visiting the south lakes.

Clean, comfortable room Reception staff attentive and friendly Pool area ok but steam room not working Breakfast good but the two staff were poor, cups, fresh bread, butter missing and tables not cleared. Ok for a short break but hotel dated in areas and items, boxes etc left in public areas.

Myself and my partner with three dogs dined and stayed at the hotel Christmas Eve. Dogs are not just accepted but genuinely welcome. Staff were so genuinely nice, happy, polite and efficient at what was a very busy time of year for them. The hotel was cosy with a relaxed atmosphere, the room was clean, food was nice, prices reasonable, parking was included, and we were kindly permitted to leave the car there while we went walking for a few hours after we'd checked out. Subsequently we returned to the bar area for drinks in front of the roaring log fire. It was our first stay, and we'd definitely return.

The staff were friendly and courteous. The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was one of the best I have had in a hotel. I would recommend the hotel to friends and family as it was very good value for money. The only downside for me was as I don't drive it was difficult to get to the local attractions in the area.

Spent a few days here, lovely quaint hotel with real fires burning. Meals good with generous portions. Plenty of choice for Breakfast. Friendly staff. Central for visiting Windermere and Ulverston. We got room with Four poster bed! Which was comfy! All for a Great Deal. We’ll be back!

Average Superior Deluxe double room on Hotels dot con for £183 a night advertised with private outdoor hot tub. I believe it's a mistake by hotels dot con the staff were lovely and helpful and this review shouldn't reflect on them or there customer service. There is no PRIVATE hot tub with this option at all. The hotel was average very creeky floors and 4 poster bed quite dated very very noisy bed. The room was reasonably clean despite mould on the bath sealant. Shame the bathroom window didn't open too. Breakfast was good apart from it bugged me that not one of the curtain rails above the doors were straight. A little overpriced for what it was. £80-£100 would have been more reasonable and that's only because it's in the lakes. Not somewhere I'd stay again. The positives: Friendly Staff, Warm Room, Food was good.

Cabin was perfect and staff were great The cabin was perfect, really big compared to other ones ive stayed at. The hot tub was nice and private and such a good temperature. The breakfast was good and the food at the returant was great. Honestly couldnt fault the stay atall. The lady at reception was so welcoming and we will definitely be coming back!

Great hotel & location Hotel is in a rural location only a few miles ftom windernere staff ate always realmy frienfly and so helpful. Its alwayscso clean and food is always excellent. Will definately go back.
