The location had great views over the valley, including the early morning sea of cloud. The property has a rooftop lookout that our group could get together to enjoy the view. It helped that our taxi could drive through the narrow road of Mengben village and deposit us and our luggage on the doorstep of the homestay. This is unlike Wengji & Nuogang villages, where cars are not allowed to enter the village but deposit visitors at the village carpark. The hospitality of the owner/hostess was remarkable. She had a Pu'er tea table and made us endless cups of different tea all grown in her farm, explaining their differences and virtues. She did not charge us a cent for the whole experience. Neither did she try to hard sell the tea leaves although we did buy a small amount off her because we enjoyed the tea. She is a good cook and whipped up breakfast and lunch for us.

The environment was very comfortable and relaxing. Beautiful view whwre you can see some of the sea of clouds. They give you disposable coverings for you to put on top of the fresh pillow bedding and mattress for extra hygiene which is a nice touch I haven't seen before. Bathroom is very clean, though there are only two toilets and two showers and two sinks, so do note that for busy season, but it wasn't an issue at all during my stay. They provided breakfast too, fresh milk the boss heated for me when I got up, and red sugar glutinous rice cakes wrapped in banana leaves (babas), and it was fun to get ready for the day with new friends on the balcony overlooking the village. I think the environment is very good for meeting new friends and other solo travelers- I arrived at the hostel randomly at the same time as three other girls, and we explored Manghong togetjer on the boss's recommendations for itinerary and sightseeing. And the next day the boss dropped us off at a tea roasting experience, and just as we were heading to Nuogan another girl from the hostel finished her tea roasting session, so we all went to Nuogan togetjer to play. The boss even helped load my luggage onto the shuttle bus so that it could pick me up at a sightseeing spot further down the mountain!

We really had a wonderful stay here. It was one of the cleanest and most comfortable accommodations we experienced in Yunnan during our one month trip. If I had to rate our stays, this would be the one I give 10 out of 10. Our room had a wooden balcony overlooking the neighborhood, a place where I truly felt at home. Sitting there quietly, observing daily life and enjoying the view, made the stay feel especially peaceful and intimate—truly something special. The owner was genuinely caring and very attentive to our well-being. The family runs their own tea business and also sells their tea at very fair prices. I especially loved the noodles prepared by the mother. You can add freshly prepared spices according to your own taste. They also offer eggs, sweet potatoes, and corn, all served in a very hygienic and beautifully presented way. For breakfast, there were also other options such as cookies and fresh fruit, so nothing was missing. It was such a pleasure to return in the evening, enjoy a cup of tea with the owner, and chat with other guests. If you want to experience Bulang hospitality while still enjoying Western-level comfort and cleanliness, this is the perfect place.

I would love to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Old Town of Chama. It may be a little tricky to find at first, but just follow Google Maps and you’ll get there easily. From the main gate of the Old Town, it’s only about a 5-minute walk. The hotel itself is quite new and very clean. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and the bathroom facilities and appliances are all modern and high-quality. The soundproofing is excellent—although you might hear music and dancing outside, once inside the room it’s perfectly quiet. The location strikes a nice balance: slightly away from the hustle and bustle, yet just a few steps from plenty of food stalls and restaurants. What really makes this place special is the owners. They are a warm, welcoming family with parents, an elder sister, and two younger brothers. They don’t speak English, but communication was never a problem—we used Google Translate to chat over cups of delicious tea. If you need anything, you can always ask them. They are very friendly and genuinely do their best to help. แนะนำเลยค่ะสำหรับใครที่มาเที่ยวเมืองเก่า Chama โรงแรมอาจหายากนิดหน่อย แต่เดินตาม Google Maps มาก็เจอไม่ยาก จากประตูเมืองเก่าเดินเพียง 5 นาทีเท่านั้น ที่พักใหม่มาก สะอาด ห้องกว้าง เตียงนอนสบาย อุปกรณ์ในห้องน้ำและเครื่องใช้ไฟฟ้าทันสมัย คุณภาพดี ที่สำคัญเก็บเสียงได้ดีมาก ข้างนอกจะมีเสียงเต้นรำบ้าง แต่พอเข้าห้องแล้วเงียบสงบ เดินออกมาไม่กี่ก้าวก็มีของกินเพียบ สิ่งที่ประทับใจที่สุดคือเจ้าของโรงแรมค่ะ เป็นครอบครัวใหญ่ที่น่ารักและอบอุ่นมาก ถึงจะพูดภาษาอังกฤษไม่ได้ แต่ก็ไม่ใช่ปัญหาเลย ใช้ Google Translate คุยกันสบาย ๆ แถมยังได้ดื่มชาที่อร่อยมากอีกด้วย ถ้ามีปัญหาหรืออยากได้ความช่วยเหลือ พวกเขาพร้อมช่วยเต็มที่จริง ๆ

客棧位置好，在景邁大寨，去周邊景點都方便，附近還有幾家不錯的餐館。有自家停車場，停車位充足。房間乾淨衞生，隔音好。夜晚寧靜，深山叢林中入睡一般。特別喜歡陽台，尤其坐在陽台品茶，喝咖啡、看星星，賞月色，十分愜意。老闆服務熱情，早餐米線味道不錯。旺季價格不貴，性價比極高，值得推薦！

Originally, i booked only 1 night, with the intention of going onwards to Laos the next day. But i stayed a 2nd night because the room was spacious and the view out of the window was so restful. About the room, I like it that there is a desk i could work from. And that the shower and WC areas are divided by a screen. For the 2nd day, my room was refreshed with used toiletries replenished and towels changed. I wish the guesthouse would implement a system where guests are able to indicate if they wish to use the same towels. I am pro-environment, so if i don't change my towels everyday at home, i don't see the need to do so when i am away. I also like the location as it was easy for me to catch Bus Route 3 to a nearby shopping area (i had KFC breakfast there), cross the road to take Bus Route 8 to Meizi Lake Park. I spent about 3 hours there, including enjoying coffee and cake in the cafe near the entrance to the park. (My biggest regard was i did not get to drink even 1 cup of Pu'er tea while in Pu'er :)) After that I back tracked on Bus Route 8 to change to Bus Route 3 to visit the Tea Horse Ancient City. Then after, I took Bus Route 3 to the shopping centre, had dinner and shopped at Walmart, before catching Bus Route 3 back to the guesthouse. There is a walking/running track just across the road from the guesthouse. Forget about going the full length of the track. Once you see a slope on the right side, walk up there. You will get a nice viewpoint and there is a nice cafe there. If the weather is right, you get to see sunrise too! I went in the morning, the cafe was closed, so did not patronise the place. Had I known about this cafe, i would have gone there on the 1st day. Perhaps the guesthouse operator could do up a map with information of easily assessible places of interest. This could result in longer stays for free and easy travellers. Pu'er is a well planned town/city. I like it and will recommend others to spend some time there. Most importantly, do stay at this guesthouse. The surrounding tea plantations will recharge you!

I had an amazing experience. The location is good and the room was very confortable. The owners are the nicest persons. They cannot speak English but made me feel at home, helped me plan my stay in Pu'er and even arranged a transfer to Jingmai mountain. I highly recommand this place and would definitely stay there if I ever come back to Pu'er.

Foreign friends: don't stay here. The worst experience I've ever had trying to check in - and I've travelled to many remote places in Yunnan over the past six years. Staff has no clue about rules and regulations, even though I showed them the most up to date rules for foreigners travelling in China. They tried to stop me from leaving the hotel because they couldn't figure out how to check me in, even though I was very hungry and tired and wanted to eat and go to bed early. They came to my room at 10pm but still couldn't figure out how to check me in. And here is the worst: at 8am the manager opened the door of my room and walked in without knocking. There was no inside lock or chain. Luckily I wasn't in the shower. Awful place that made me feel extremely unwelcome as a foreigner. They made me feel like a criminal because of their incompetence and stupid actions. Very different from most places where staff is helpful even if it's a bit more complicated.

All the reviews are true, but it’s not the wooden building that causes it.  Yes, it is very loud and you hear everyone. We’ve stayed in other fully wooden places, it’s worse here. Maybe not the wood but the guests are the problem. Loud Chinese people, walking the stairs with the heaviest pace you can imagine. Maybe help the other guests by hanging some warnings on the stairs: please be mindful for the other guests when walking to your room.  Also loud Chinese tourist on the square below. Not only while eating they scream all over the place, also with the tea ceremony nobody asks them to please stop talking after 23:00/24:00. We were up till 02:00AM because of tea drinking Chinese people at the fire. We stayed in the suite, which is located above the fire pit. Maybe the other rooms are less noisy. At 7AM each morning, somebody ran down the stairs. We think it’s the staff. It wakes you up through your earplugs.  The staff is OK. They are very shy, not rude. They could be more pro active though as we didn’t feel like they wanted to do something.. which is different to rude but also not very friendly.  The other villages around are way bigger and less cozy than Wengji. Also, with this guesthouse being just next to the town, it was perfect to escape the tourists most of the time. We didn’t find other accommodations in Wengji with the same aesthetics as Shishi guesthouse so we can’t recommend other places better than this. Maybe if the guesthouse would invest in trying to keep the noise down under the various guests, with text signs or with clearer house rules (fire pit), the noise problem wouldn’t be as bad.  Maybe if they tried to enthusiast their staff more and keep them from watching Chinese drama shows on their phones all day, they would be a bit more welcoming.  We’ve met a lot of amazing people in Wengji, it’s definitely not the locals that have this behaviour.  Lastly, the suite has a cubicle bathroom in the room, they really don’t clean this well. It smells very bad and just feels dirty all over.  For comfort this place is too expensive, for the location and aesthetics you won’t find better options nearby.

Erg lieve familie! We werden meteen uitgenodigd voor thee, en ik heb zelfs zelfgemaakte dragonfruitwijn gedronken. Ontbijt en avondeten zijn heerlijk, goed klaargemaakt én wij vonden het ook nog eens goedkoop. Ze zijn bijna altijd in de buurt om te helpen, maar hebben tegelijk duidelijk hun eigen bezigheden — fijne balans. De accommodatie voelt een beetje als een kleine boerderij: er zijn meerdere dieren aanwezig. Ook zij en de buren hebben superlieve, aanhankelijke hondjes en een kat. Ze stoeien en spelen de hele dag met elkaar en komen graag bij je kijken. Ik werd echt verliefd op de pup van de buren. Qua prijs is deze plek, vergeleken met andere accommodaties in de omgeving, echt goedkoop. De kamer is prima: niet heel groot, maar groot genoeg (en je bent toch meestal buiten). Het bed is hard, wat wij juist fijn vonden. Het toilet is een squattoilet en er is heet water. Het gezamenlijke terras is een hoogtepunt: een prachtig uitzicht over de bergen en de vallei, en je kijkt uit op de “sea of clouds” — magisch, vooral in de ochtend. Wij hadden geen auto, maar konden hier een scooter huren voor 50 yuan per dag. Dat was zó leuk en maakte ons verblijf beter dan we hadden kunnen dromen: we hebben met z’n tweeën het hele gebied verkend. De bus stopt op ongeveer 1 km afstand, en voor de terugweg naar Pu’er hebben ze ons geholpen met een shared ride. Het is echt een warme familie die met je meedenkt over je reis en die altijd wil helpen. Als we terugkomen, zouden we weer hierheen gaan. Dankjulliewel! Ps: vlakbij de accommodatie is ook een gezin dat zelfgemaakte theesets verkoopt met speciale klei. Een aanrader!
