"Perfect stay! Although one night is bit too short! The owner was very friendly and helpful, they reached out to us the day before our arrival and asked if we need pickup from the train station. Once we arrived, a lady came to pick us up from outside of the ancient city as the car couldn’t drive into the ancient town. Free water in the room and we were given some free shaji juice and vinegar. The room was incredibly clean and beautiful with the ancient look furnitures and comfy at the same time. We would love to stay again if ever come back. Highly recommend this room for couples!"

"I had a truly wonderful stay at this charming courtyard hotel in Pingyao, a perfect 10/10 experience. Although it’s a small property with only about 6–8 rooms, everything about it feels thoughtfully done and beautifully presented. The hotel is newly renovated, with tasteful decorations that blend traditional character with a fresh, comfortable atmosphere.
What impressed me the most was the owner. He is incredibly friendly, warm, and genuinely helpful, his service goes far beyond expectations. From the moment I arrived, I felt well taken care of, and his sincerity really made the stay special.
Location is superb! The room was spotless, one of the cleanest I’ve experienced. I actually walked around and looked at a few other motels in Pingyao, and I can confidently say this one stands out as the best in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and overall quality. On top of all that, the price is very reasonable for what you get. It’s rare to find a place that offers such great value together with such heartfelt hospitality. Highly, highly recommended , I would definitely stay here again."

"The accommodation is absolutely beautiful, with very nice details. They also left us some sweets and tea as a welcome gift, and every day they gave us a large bottle of water. The only thing I didn’t like is that during the day people come to take photos at the property, and there is quite a lot of noise until almost 10pm. Sometimes it can be annoying to hear people taking photos right outside your room. Apart from that, the accommodation is great."

"Elsewhere Xianya hotel really exceeded our expectations. The room was clean, quiet and equipped with all kind of amenities, the bed was super big and comfortable. The reception girls were the loveliest and gave us many recommendations and discount tickets for restaurants. On our departure day they even gave us a gift. I would recommend anyone staying here!"

"Cosy historical building done up very nicely. Room was well renovated, owner super friendly and very accommodating, we asked for more water, toilet paper, different type of breakfast etc all happy to oblige. 10 minutes walk to light show, 10m walk to center of ancient city where most of the historical sites were. 10m walk to outside where the best food is..DO NOT eat inside the old city, food outside much better. Owner also arranged for car to take us to Wang Family compound and Shuanglian temple at much better price than I could find anywhere online. and private transfer to/from train station as well. Very happy I booked to stay at this location. Breakfast was EXCELLENT"

"I never bother writing reviews. Pure laziness on my part. But here, I had to. The hotel seems very new, the rooms are very comfortable and, of course, very clean. The breakfast is great and varied (even for a European who eats sweets in the morning 😅). And most importantly, the staff. I arrived in the evening, and two young women checked me in. They were extremely friendly and gave me advice on where to eat and what to see in the city. Thank you for introducing me to Pingyao and for representing your hotel. I interacted with many Chinese people during my trip, but never on such a high level. Thank you to the team at the Mercure de Pingyao and a big thanks to Xiao Wang 小王 and Xiao Cheng 小程 for your hospitality and kindness."

Service: the hotel team picked me up and dropped me off at the high speed train station in Pingyao which worked flawlessly. In general the hotel team was very attentive and tried their best to solve any questions.

"the staff was friendly and the inn is very cute. the toilet was a bit dirty but nothing a good disposable toilet seat cover couldn't solve. wifi and AC heating are great. breakfast was amazing. the only complaint is that check out took longer than usual (staff wasn't present) and we weren't given any bottle of typical vinegar :/"

Every brick and stone tells a story. Every street and alley narrates tales of the past and present.
Kang Qian Ji Mansion is located at No. 33, Chang Xiang Street, within the ancient city of Pingyao. It was constructed in 1838 during the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty. Currently, it is a county-level cultural heritage site. It was originally the residence of Wang Jin-ting, the manager of the Pingyao Tiancheng Heng Bank’s Hankou branch. Wang Jin-ting (1859–1938), whose full name was Quan Yi and whose courtesy name was Jin-ting, was from the village of Xi Zhang Zhao in Pingyao. In his youth, he worked in the Tiancheng Heng Bank. After the bank’s collapse, he was recommended by Lu Rongting, the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, to serve as an assistant manager at the Guangxi Bank. In 1924, Wang Jin-ting purchased the residence at No. 33 Chang Xiang Street in Pingyao’s ancient city, which had originally been a government residence. The courtyard’s floor plan features a pair of phoenixes spreading their wings, with the phoenix facing the grain market and its tail extending over the Helaoxian Bridge, symbolizing vitality and auspiciousness.
The courtyard has weathered the passage of time, and with the changes in society, it was acquired by Kang Qian Ji Catering Company in 2025. We uphold the “Deren” principle of the Jin merchants, striving to restore and maintain the original state of the courtyard. The courtyard’s brick carvings of the麒麟 delivering children symbolize the owner’s dedication to preserving the Jin merchant culture and their best wishes for the guests. The wooden carvings of the phoenix and dragon support the pillars, showcasing the courtyard’s grandeur and elegance. Additionally, we have incorporated environmental and humanistic sciences to adopt a modern, luxurious style within the rooms, equipped with smart guest control systems, custom-made bathrooms, and ergonomically designed memory foam bedding and mattresses. The mansion has been transformed into a masterpiece that seamlessly blends ancient craftsmanship with modern technology.
After a century of existence, the ancient courtyard has been reborn as the “Kang Qian Ji Mansion.” We respect the original appearance of the cultural relics, preserving the principle of “etiquette” and emphasizing rectitude, with a strong vertical axis and balanced symmetry in the architectural style.
