We needed to spend a night in the historical centre of Petchaburi and Agoda showed the only other guesthouse nearby as “sold out.” The fan room we were given was very dark and dingy, although it appeared to be clean, and the toilet and showers were down a steep staircase. Although it would have been OK, I guess, for just one night, it was far below our usual minimum standard. We decided to try the other nearby guesthouse, and they offered us a very nice bright room with ensuite bathroom and air conditioning for not much more money — even though the property showed as “sold out” on Agoda. We decided to take that room and blow off jj home despite losing the few baht we had prepaid that were not refundable. I want to emphasize that the young manager who checked us in and showed us to our room was very friendly and personable. The fault was not his, but rather the quality of the room.
