"After the craziness of Cairo it was nice to walk into a place that felt more relaxed and homely. The staff were all very kind. Best part about this place was the food. The cook went above and beyond to cater for us. Very large portions at a reasonable price. Would recommend if you’re after somewhere more budget with a homely feel."

"Mara house is not just about somewhere to rest your head in Luxor, I have wanted to visit Egypt for over 20 years but even once we decided 2025 was the right time , I was nervous about booking the trip, I didn’t want it to be spoilt by hassle, scammers and forced shopping trips and end up feeling uncomfortable and disappointed. Then I came across Mara on the internet pages and made contact with her to discuss a potential 9 day private tour starting in Cairo, Aswan and Luxor. I needed a mid price trip but wanted to feel safe and that exactly what we got !! Great communication and a seamless tour, comfortable accommodation, clean cars with polite drivers and knowledgable guides. Amar managers Mara house, his house is lovely clean and comfortable, he also organised the restaurants, boat rides and horse and carriage tour, we requested. We were happy to walk through the surrounding streets, we felt safe and found the local people friendly but it is completely different from the Uk with unfinished buildings and basic roads , best to check the other reviews for photos"

"A young man helped me with my suitcase and explained everything about the room. The lock on my first room was broken, so he changed it for me. There was also a supermarket nearby, which was convenient (though be careful, as they can overcharge you). However, the air conditioner was broken in this room, so it was cold the whole time! You can walk to Karnak Temple, but Luxor Temple is a bit of a distance away; you'll need a taxi or horse-drawn carriage. So, I sometimes wonder if it would have been better to book a hotel halfway between Luxor and Karnak Temples so I wouldn't have had to negotiate taxi fares every time... haha."
