The hotel was exactly what we needed for a visit to the central film school open day. The hotel restaurant ‘Thyme’ is to your left as you enter, the reception area is small but directly in front of you as you enter. We were checked in very quickly and efficiently by Marion (I think that was his name), a young man that did his job adequately but didn’t smile a single time throughout check-in or whilst serving us in the restaurant area as part of the meal deal I booked. I like that room numbers are not called out and the keycard is required to use the lifts. There is a vending machine next to the ground floor lift which has snacks, water, and to my daughter’s delight a tiny toothbrush/toothpaste in a case set. Our room was fine with kettle, working tv, adequate pillows etc it was very quiet which would have been great had the room not been so hot that we needed to use the aircon. The windows don’t open at all, unfortunately after a while the aircon makes a gurgly running water noise then a weird crackling sounds before it stops for a while and then the cycle begins again…eventually we turned it off and were just hot so we got some sleep but not much, with a 4 hour drive home after our visit to CFS, this was not ideal. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. There is a Tesco express and a Sainsbury’s local within 2 mins walk and after 3:30pm Friday and all weekend parking opposite the hotel on Victoria Rise was really handy. I’d stay again if I needed somewhere in the area as it was a good price.
