"We had a wonderful one-night stay in The Piggery at Retreat East Suffolk and were really impressed with both the accommodation and the overall experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming. We particularly appreciated how warmly we were welcomed with our dog, who was made to feel just as much at home as we were. The Piggery itself is a beautiful converted barn and feels like a real touch of luxury. The fit-out is exceptional, with no expense seemingly spared. We had a lovely, incredibly comfortable king-size bed, a huge walk-in shower and a beautiful freestanding bath, as well as an additional shower room with toilet. The kitchen area was equally impressive, featuring a Smeg fridge freezer and Miele appliances. The barn was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated, while still retaining the character of the original building and its lovely natural beams. There were some really thoughtful touches too — a freshly baked cookie waiting for us on arrival, a coffee machine with grind pods, and the fridge stocked with milk and water. We had dinner in our private courtyard, ordering from the main on-site restaurant, with the staff kindly bringing everything over to us. The food was fresh, beautifully presented and delicious, and we felt it represented very good value for the quality and standard we received. The wine list was extensive, with some particularly well-curated choices. Breakfast was equally enjoyable, and a continental breakfast was included in the room rate, which was a lovely added touch. There was also complimentary tea and coffee, making it a relaxed and enjoyable way to start the morning. We also loved the little shop at reception, which had some lovely touches and was particularly useful for both humans and dogs! You can purchase toiletries from the same lovely brand provided in the barns, as well as dog treats and toys — and, of course, chocolate for the humans! Our dog was made to feel incredibly welcome. He was provided with his own dog bed, treats and bowls and settled in almost immediately — he obviously felt quite at home! There are also some lovely walks around the local area, which we'll look forward to exploring to the fullest when we return in cooler weather. We didn't use the spa facilities during this stay, so can't comment on those, although the hot tub certainly looked inviting! Overall, Retreat East is a lovely venue offering clean, modern and beautifully designed accommodation, genuinely friendly service with a smile, and a wonderful feeling of total relaxation once you settle in. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return."

"The hotel I chose temporarily was unexpectedly bad. The area around the hotel was under renovation. The shower in my room was broken, and the facilities were very old and dirty. To be honest, it's probably worse than the 7 days in China."
