Hotel Villa Colico ★★★

"This hotel is across the road from Colico railway station. The town is not as touristy as Bellagio or Varenna: the sole small supermarket was closed on Saturday afternoon. The hotel is set back from the quite busy single lane each way road. It has an old style quaint lift with patrons having to keep pressing the desired floor button. My generously sized first floor room had a proper Queen bed, often not the case in Europe. The safety deposit box was archaic and ideally ought be replaced with a modern model. The bed was good quality. Bedside tables were well lit. The desk had a comfortable chair. There was a balcony but I didn't seem able to obtain access. The TV lacked English language channels. A bottle of drinking water was provided, as was soap and shampoo. Pleasingly, there was a mini fridge. Bed linen and towels were good quality. The bath towel was a proper large one, again unusual in Europe. The bathroom was also a decent size. The shower was efficient and did not leak onto the bathroom floor. Lighting in the bathroom was good. Breakfast was pleasant although there were only 12 seats if I recall. The juices such as peach were first class. I enjoyed a hot chocolate, yoghurt and croissants. The owners were very helpful. The nearest Catholic Church is St George (San Giogio) with a Saturday night Vigil Mass at 1800 hours while Sunday Masses are at 1030 and 1800. It is 350 metres or so from the hotel."

"I stayed at this hotel, or rather, this inn, for a week with my husband and teenage daughter, choosing half-board. We had a wonderful time; the room was perfect, both clean and comfortable. It was perfect for my daughter because she had her own room inside, so comfortable and romantic. In the morning, in addition to the buffet breakfast, we could ask the chef to make us pancakes on the spot. Served hot, they were a real treat! Barbara and her staff were incredibly kind. We felt right at home, and they offered plenty of tips on what to see in the area. It's a strategic location for visiting Lake Como, Valtellina, and Valchiavenna. The dinners were excellent; Chef Francesco wowed us with his refined dishes. It was one of our best holidays, thanks in part to the inn's staff and the magnificent sights in this area. I would recommend Locanda Capolago as a place to stay to anyone, whether they're looking for a quiet getaway or, like us, wanting to explore nearby places."

Overall the place with big and clean swimming pool, big well maintained garden - so you do not have a feeling that somebody is watching you over the fence - was simply Amaizing. Great breakfast, with good selection of food. For sure if I have a chance in future to visit this part of Italy - I would love to come again."

"We were four adults and one child for only six days. We had a lovely lawn for the child to play on. The basic kitchen equipment was also adequate. The Wi-Fi wasn't very stable with four devices running. Otherwise, it was a very nice, quiet location. We can recommend it."
