My first visit to Otaru was truly unforgettable, all thanks to my experience at this wonderful hotel! Located just a pleasant 20-minute drive from Otaru Station, the hotel is nestled in a tranquil, private area that feels like stepping into a captivating wonderland. I was delighted to discover a bus stop right across from the hotel, making it effortlessly convenient to explore the surroundings. From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us warmly by name, and they were incredibly helpful with our luggage. Taking off our shoes upon entering the hotel created a feeling of comfort and cleanliness that made us feel right at home. After a smooth check-in process, during which they confirmed our breakfast time, the staff graciously guided us through the hotel, sharing helpful information about opening hours for various amenities. Our room was beautifully adorned in traditional Japanese style, complete with an open-air bath. Enjoying this serene experience during the winter was simply magical! We also savored a delectable Kaiseki dinner in our room, which was not only a feast for our taste buds but also left us delightfully satisfied. The onsens were a real highlight, featuring an adjacent sauna. With daily alternating access for women and men every other day, we were able to enjoy both during our stay. Families will find this hotel exceptionally accommodating, thanks to its variety of playrooms and relaxation spaces catering to guests of all ages. Plus, the complimentary refreshments and bar in the lobby until 10 PM added a lovely touch to our experience. Breakfast was a true delight, with a peaceful view of the snow outside the restaurant, enhancing the serene atmosphere. On our departure day, the hotel thoughtfully arranged a shuttle bus to take us to the JR station, making our exit seamless and convenient. Looking back, our only regret is that we stayed just one night—I can't wait to return and immerse myself in a different season's beauty. This hotel is now firmly on my list for future visits, and I’m already looking forward to the next adventure!

We booked the best room on the top floor and spent 7 nights at this high end and extremely expensive ryokan/hotel. Here are the pros and cons: PROS: The food is amazing in terms of presentation, gastronomy and service. The place is immaculately clean. The views a fantastic! We got comfortable Yukatas and overall the place has a very nice traditional vibe.  CONS: They seem to be completely inapt in hosting people who don’t speak Japanese. No one speaks English at this place. None at all! They write that we can “press 9 and call the reception”, but once you do it – you can’t have any conversation with anyone at all. Even when you get down in person to the reception, no one can really communicate with you, even with Google Translate.  They exhibit zero flexibility. The approach is – it’s our way or the highway. All is extremely polite, but no left, no right! Can we have a laundry service arranged? The answer is “no!”. Can we communicate with you via WhatsApp or email? – No! Can we come later to breakfast? No. Can we have dinner at a later time, since we can’t come earlier just this one day? No! Basically, if you want to sleep a bit later during your vacation – forget it! Either show up at 8 or 8:30 am for breakfast, or go hungry! Can we buy your Yukata? – No! Also, we were asked to indicate every day what time we intend to go out – something that adds pressure, as  on vacation one may want to improvise, rather than plan ahead their outings.  Given that this place charges exuberant prices, the lack of the most basic hospitality features (communication, laundry, customer-focused flexibility) is astounding! We now staying at another Ryokan, 90 minutes away and see that everyone can speak some English and the place is much more focused on the needs of a foreign traveler, as opposed on preserving the holy rigidity of an existent system. 

Their Wi-Fi worked for maybe 5 minutes, and was extremely slow. I had to buy data from my phone and hotspot it to work, costing me much more money. I was so frustrated because this is so basic and they couldn't get that right. The workers were great but I'm still never coming back.

Olen tullut hotelliin yöllä, kuljettaja käveli oven luo, auta minua, auta minua, kerro minulle, että vieressä on joku henkilökunta, joka juoksi ja kysyi minulta varaushuonetta, oikea juoksu!! Auta minua sitten auton sijainti, sitten pakkaamaan matkatavarat ja juoksemaan!!!! Palvelu on hyvä, että koko perhe on täällä!! Hotelliin pääsee, ilmastointi on erittäin hyvä, koska ulkona on -10 astetta, mutta huone on lämmin ja kylmä, joten se on mukava, huone on suuri, mutta on perinteinen japanilainen huone, ja se on hyvin sijoitettu, mutta jos matkatavarat ovat suuremmat, ne ovat hyvin pakkoja, mutta ne ovat kotona. Koska ateria oli kaksinkertainen, aamiainen oli hienoja kiviruokaisia. Jokainen ateria oli mukana, jokainen työntekijä vei minut ravintolaan aiemmin. Lämmintä aluetta on sisällä ja ulkona, ei iso, mutta riittää. Olen tavannut ihmisiä kahdesti, pakettikenttä, ja!! Tarkista, että työntekijät näkivät minut kidnappaukseni!! Joskus kokemme sen uudelleen!

The hotel is quite dated. Can see that the decor, furniture etc are all probably seen decades of use. Regardless, the location was great - just outside the train station. I can leave my luggage immediately and go sightseeing. Breakfast too was great. The eggs were so good. Finally, there’s natural hot springs too that was amazing after a tiring day.

Very lovely hotel with extremely helpful front desk staff who spoke good English. The location is really convenient smack right in between Otaru JR station and Otaru Canal and less than 15 mins walk to Sakaimaichi Shopping Street. The room is big in Japanese terms. No issue for those travelling with 2 x 30 inch lugguage. We had twin bed room which comes with a large sofa lounge enough for 1 person to sleep. We had dinner at the 11th Floor Casa Blanca. Wonderful dinner for 3 with wines, whisky and highballs. Exceptional night view of snow capped city buildings. All at an very surprising bill of ¥25,000 for a fine dinning restaurant. I will not hesitate to recommend this excellent hotel. Will definitely be back for my next visit to Otaru in Authum.

An excellent location for playing golf at Sassoon Golf Club, just a few minutes from the golf course. The hotel provides clean and spacious rooms, big onsen bath and breakfast of good choice. If you play golf in Otaru, it’s the best choice.

Very convenient location if you are into skii/snowboarding. It’s quite centralized to majority of the slopes and only 30mins drive to Otaru town. Only downside there is no food nearby by the hotel itself has 2 restaurant. The Japanese one was superb, good food with reasonable price, sadly only open few days a week.

영화에서 나올법한 고택에서 현대적으로 재해석한 일본풍 호텔이 연결되는게 매우 인상깊었습니다 이런곳에서 묵는 것 만으로도 하나의 어트렉션인 느낌 다만 밤에 조명이 좀 어둡고 화장실 바닥에 배수구가 없는게 좀 불편했습니다
