Shuixieshanshe Homestay is a relatively new lodging started by a young couple. The room we stayed in was clean and bright. The room's temperature can be adjusted accordingly, and there is a warm shower that is strong even when 3-4 people use it consecutively. The lodging is value for money and the young couple managing it goes out of the way to make the place homely and comfortable for the guests. The owner provides complimentary pick-up and drop-off at the Hengshan West Railway station. My elderly mom was ill during the trip and the owner went out of the way to send us to the TCM clinic. We extended our stay for another day due to the kindness and courtesy of the owners. Shuixieshanshe Homestay is within 5 minutes of walking distance to the Grand Temple of Mount Heng ( Nányuè Dàmiào) which makes it an excellent base from which to explore Mount Heng (衡山)

Service is superb. Hotel arrange High speed rail pickup using 6 seater. Front desk is patience in explaining the area and gave us small gift during our checkout. Overall is decent.

The hotel is modern and well equipped. I arrived late evening and the staff at reception help me to experience local food, it was great following 18 hours of travel. The house keeper pulled out a car and took me to the famous barbecue restaurant at my request, waited while I ordered the food and took me back. I have never experienced this hospitality in a China hotel. Thank you to all the reception staff and the housekeeper XiaoXiao. That’s how you get return custom.

Visit Date: November 30 - December 2 2025 __ Service: - The hotel owner himself picked me up and dropped me off at the local Hengshan West high speed rail station. - The owner was very friendly and invited me to try some extremely high end tea. As I was a solo traveller, he also invited me to eat with him - trying some local dishes and sharing a few beers after. - The owner offered to do a guided tour of some local attractions. - The service is very personalised as there are only 12 rooms, with the owner himself personally serving guests and explaining the history of the local area. __ Property: - The construction is extremely high quality, with Tang-style aesthetic in the rooms, but a modern, western style common area and cafe. Having visited many boutique hotels in more remote areas, emphasis must be placed on the materials, polish and finish - giving a very sleek feel. - There is a good balance of water features, with a fishpond where you can feed fish. - The valley facing rooms have very good framing of the scenery including river and mountains in differing depth peripherals. - The layout, location and surrounding mountainside adds a strong sense of privacy compared to the city. __ Room: - The rooms have high-end Toto bidet toilets. - Rooms are very clean. - The front-desk has different scented candles that can be used in your room. - The furniture and amenities within the room are all brand new and at or above the standard as every 5-star city hotel. __ Food: - The owner kindly covered all 3 meals, of which lunch and dinner were more local, as I was joined by the owner and some staff. All meals are a-la-carte made to order by an in-house chef. - The beef rice noodles with soup was an exceptional breakfast, especially for me who cannot eat very spicy food. (The local cuisine is generally very spicy preference.) - You can pick fresh oranges in the orchard immediately adjacent to the hotel. __ Local Area: - The local area is not as popular for tourism as compared to places like the nearby Zhangjiajie Avatar Mountains. Many attractions are mainly Buddhism related such as temples or a purported 1000 year old Gingko Tree. - The local Mount Heng can be hiked in under 4 hours. - The local city is small and the hotel location is somewhat far from the city centre. __ Overall this hotel provides a very tranquil environment to meditate and destress over tea, while looking at beautiful scenery. For the price point given, it offers a much better value compared to attempting to get the same conditions in the more popular, crowded scenic areas nearby. If visiting the local city or adjacent Hengyang, this hotel is by far the most unique experience, as almost all other high end hotels are just the high-rise business hotel type.

Its an average hotel. The rooms are in practice not as nice looking as the website suggests so the standard was disappointing. Further, I asked for non-smoking but all the rooms are smoking rooms with ashtrays in them. However they had clearly cleaned out the room and used an air purifier for a while to remove most of the filfthy residual smell of smoke - but people were smoking outside the room and across the corridor catering to what looked a smokers conference on the same floor! I found this very off putting affecting my health so I had to keep outdoor windows open as well as run fans to keep smoke from coming into the rook. The rooms are also not insulated so I could hear constant spitting and shouting - unless you are used to this this can be quite intimidating. The breakfast was limited to local cuisine and was way too overcrowded with people pushing each other to get past, a habit I have not learnt to enjoy. So I wasted my money and did not have breakfast there. Overall its a good hotel but it does not cater for international visitors despite the impression the website suggests it does - everything is in Chinese and a translation app is absolutely vital. The staff are very nice and very good and very patient given the need for translation and they helped a lot. Aslo one needs to be able to pay in wechat - the chinese restauarant is ok but the translation photographs of the menu are vital and then payments are on wechat. Traveling solo in China can be very isolating because there is very little done in terms of visitors outside of major cities like Shanghai and Beijing. So mainstream hotels like this one should do a bit more to help - I couldn't even call for the shuttle because of the language barrier and there was no web booking for it either so I had ot get a local cab. Many local cab drivers cant read and so the translation app can help but sometimes you will find if they cant read it you need to use the voice conversion - all this takes time and can be exhausting. Still I think the AI tech in this space is fantastic to be even able to do this today! I remember the first time I travelled alone in China and I just went with teh flow and often got lost as part of the adventure - people are very very nice helping me alone.

I had a wonderful stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hengshan South. I was greeted warmly by the host and his family, and from the moment I arrived, they made me feel genuinely welcome. I spent New Year’s Eve with them chatting, sharing snacks, and watching TV with his father, a retired prosecutor, which made the experience feel especially meaningful and personal. In the morning, the host’s mother, a former doctor, prepared a traditional New Year’s breakfast before my hike, made sure I had plenty of food for the day, and gave clear directions for heading up Hengshan South. Their kindness and hospitality truly stood out. The room itself was very clean, comfortable, and perfectly located for starting the hike to Hengshan South, which made everything easy and convenient. As an English teacher spending my first Chinese New Year living in China for a year, this stay made the holiday feel incredibly special. I’m very grateful for the warmth and care I experienced here, and I hope to return someday.

設施：健身房不是很大，但其他的該有的都有，酒店很大，房間也很舒服。適合開車過去，離市區有點遠。 衞生：在衡陽住過的酒店裡比起來，衞生非常好，入住非常舒服。 環境：酒店很大，舒適度很高 服務：客服服務非常好，續房幫我維持了原價，7061和7028一直耐心解答我的問題，還送了小孩早餐劵。

The hotel is great! The location is very close to the temple and also to the mountain! The staff are fantastic! They are very friendly and helpful! They can pick you up and drop you off from the railway station and the bus station! I had to change my travel plans last minute, and they helped me change the drop off time and location! The room is very clean and the amenities are great! The roof has a lovely terrace with a great view of the mountains! The food at the hotel is also great! I ate all of my meals at the hotel, and everything was delicious! If I ever return to hike the mountain, I will definitely stay here!

A cosy room, very close to the trails to Hensghan Scenic Area and all the food spots. The staff were pleasant and accommodating to our early check out. It's a simple hotel, yet has all necessary amenities for a short stay with a good value for the price.

設施：標配基本都有，拖鞋不是一次性的，乾濕分離，沒有洗衣袋。馬桶沖水有點慢，要長按才行。送了一次性馬桶套。 衞生：打掃蠻乾淨，就是酒店確實有年頭了，轉角，地板都可以看出來磨損的痕跡，地板上還有很多煙頭的燙傷。毛巾也是灰灰的顏色了，不是白色。 服務：多要了一床被子，送的很快。退房也很方便，就是酒店沒有充電樁。
