I recently stayed at this hotel and while there were some positives, a few key issues made the experience less than ideal.
🌄 Scenic Beauty
No doubt, the view from the property is stunning — easily one of its strongest features. Whether it’s sunrise or sunset, the surroundings offer a peaceful and picturesque escape.
🛏️ Room Quality
The rooms were decent: clean, comfortable, and functional. Not luxurious, but good enough for a short stay. A few upgrades in decor or amenities could elevate the experience.
🍽️ Food Concerns
Unfortunately, the food was a major letdown. After breakfast, I experienced stomach pain that felt like food poisoning. It’s hard to say for certain, but the timing and symptoms suggest the meal may have been the cause. This was disappointing and concerning, especially given the importance of food safety in hospitality.
⚖️ Overall Impression
The hotel has potential — great views and acceptable rooms — but the food experience seriously affected my stay. I hope they take steps to improve kitchen hygiene and food quality going forward.

It was a delightful stay at the Forest View Villa. The food was delicious, especially the rolled pancakes for breakfast and the view amazing. We highly recommend this place.
As the train connection between Kandy and Ella is not yet (end of February 2026) working, due to the devastating cyclon in December 25, you might want to consider asking your host to drive you. It might be less stressful than changing busses 3 times.

Room was clean & spacious. Service staff was friendly & helpful for various requests. Only down side is that there were a few instances of water outage - although usually resolved 10 minutes. Heated water in shower takes quite a while - although maybe it’s due to location (mountainous area).
Food however quite lacking - really really salty.

The hotel is hidden away in the mountains outside Kandy, a great spot to relax and unwind. It is about 45 minutes out of central Kandy and 20 minutes to the botanical gardens but the hotel will helpfully arrange transport if you decide to head into town. The view from the hotel is one of the best I have ever seen and sitting, relaxing in the beautiful grounds was one of the highlights of our time in Sri Lanka. The hotel food is also excellent, with a wide variety of delicious curries available. All of the staff are extremely friendly, warm and welcoming, they went out of their way to make sure we had a good time They also have a very affectionate dog, which was a huge win!

Tämä on kaunis asunto, jossa on vähän kaukana kaupungista, mutta se voi olla Gregoryn järven takana.
Lähdin aamulla, mutta aamiainen on helppoa 30 minuuttia ennen aamiaista.
Joulukuussa Nuwara Eliya oli kylmä ilta, mutta valitettavasti hetken vesipaine oli hieman heikko.(Huoneessa on pieni lämmittimen, joten ei ole erityistä ongelmaa ...)

One of the most amazing properties i have stayed at. Both Bandhara and Madu, the butler and chef, were amazing. They were attentive, responsive and spot on..great work guys..very impressed.
The property does full justice to the $. The location, the chants from the Buddhist temple in the valley create the utmost serene atmosphere. Every amenity is top end and every detail looked after. Will visit again for sure and will highly recommend..cheers

SShweta LVilla Mount Royal sijaitsee kätevästi, tarjoamalla helppo pääsy Nuwara Eliya tärkeimmät nähtävyyksiin, kuten Gregory järvi, Hakgala Botanical Garden, ja tee istutuksia. Huoneita on tilava, mausteellisesti sisustettu ja modernit tilat. Erityisesti arvostin suuria ikkunoita, jotka osoittivat ympäristön luonnon kauneutta – herätä mäkiä oli todella taika! Sänkyt olivat mukavia, ja kylpyhuoneet olivat spotless, ja tarjonta kuumaa vettä voittaa kylmä sää. Villalla on mukava yhteinen alue, jossa on tulipalo, täydellinen rentoutumiseen päivän jälkeen nähtävyyksissä. Puutarha on hyvin ylläpidetty, tarjoaa rauhallisen paikan nauttia aamupala teetä tai kahvia. Ilmainen Wi-Fi oli saatavilla, mutta suosittelen, että poistamme yhteyden hieman suihkua rauhassa asennossa. Heidän Sri Lankan aamiainen oli korostettu – sydämellinen, maukasta ja tehty rakkaudessa. simple vegetable & rice.
I realized how food prepared with heart
can heal our soul.
I was kept thinking if people in the world
could eat this kind of food with real
soul in it, could heal the whole world!!
It is so amazing to be
surrounded by
beautiful trees
&sounds of animals.

VVieraskäyttäjäWe enjoyed our stay at Hotel Ganthera and the staff were friendly however the room itself could have been improved. For example, there was distinct black marks on the walls and some mould in the bathroom but we understand the climate is humid (also some dead bugs). Bed area was clean and satisfactory and we slept well.
The front door is locked at night so beware if needing to leave early - staff are not attentive to this.
Whilst we did not use the pool area, the view was nice and pool looked good. Overall we enjoyed our stay but would probably not come back.
