Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park is located in southern Kenya, adjacent to the Tanzanian border and set against Mount Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa. It is one of Kenya's most popular wildlife reserves among travelers, renowned worldwide for the classic image of herds of African elephants on the open savanna framed together with the snow-capped mountain. The park's name originates from the Maasai word "Empusel," meaning "place of salt dust," referring to the dry ancient lakebed at the center of the park. This lakebed only occasionally holds a thin layer of water during the rainy season, and under the scorching sun it gleams with white saline-alkali deposits, often creating mirages when viewed from afar. In stark contrast to the dry lakebed are the year-round swamps and wetlands within the park—these wetlands are fed by meltwater from Mount Kilimanjaro seeping underground, and during the dry season they become a vital water source for the survival of large numbers of wildlife. Amboseli is an ideal place to observe African savanna elephants, with a considerable quantity of elephant herds inhabiting the park. Since the 1970s, research teams have continuously tracked and studied wild elephant herds here, making it one of the few bases worldwide for long-term field research on elephant behavior. In addition to elephants, the park is also home to large mammals such as lions, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and African buffaloes, with over 400 bird species recorded, and waterbirds such as pelicans, African fish eagles, and crowned cranes frequently appearing in the swamp areas. The observation hill in the park is one of the few places where travelers are allowed to get out of the vehicle and walk. After reaching the summit, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the entire park—the outline of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance, the shimmering marshes below, and the herds of animals scattered across the savanna all come into view. It is an ideal spot for capturing the classic "elephants and snow-capped mountain" shot. Early morning and late afternoon are when animals are most active and the light is softer, making them good times to arrange game drives.Kenya · Amboseli
Fort Jesus Museum

Fort Jesus Museum

Fort Jesus Museum is located at the southeast corner of Mombasa Island. The opening of new maritime routes linking East and West fueled the growth of international trade and shipping. Mombasa was an important supply point and cargo distribution center on these new routes, making it a contested prize. In 1589, the Ottoman Empire sent an expeditionary force to occupy Mombasa and build a fortress. In 1593, the Portuguese captured Mombasa and built a larger fortress on the headland at the harbor to overlook and control the port. Because Portuguese missionaries also traveled aboard merchant ships to preach, this new fortress was named Fort Jesus Museum. Fort Jesus Museum is shaped like the Chinese character "da". It is over 100m long and approx. 80m wide. Its walls are built on coral rock, stand 15m high, and are 2.4m thick. The main gate is studded with spikes approx. 10 cm long to prevent elephants from ramming it. In 1696, the Sultan of Oman laid siege to the fortress, and the Portuguese surrendered after resisting for 2 years and 9 months. In 1958, the old fortress was converted into a museum, displaying historical images and artifacts related to East Africa and the new maritime routes. Some artifacts from China are also on display, including porcelain plates, vases, and other items made during the Xuande reign of the Ming dynasty. Research suggests that Zheng He's fleet also reached Mombasa during his voyages to the Western Seas, and these artifacts were likely left behind at that time.Kenya · Mombasa

A giraffe looks like it has lost its neck and head in Tsavo East National Park, Kenya. Although the two giraffes appear to be affectionate, they are actually involved in a fight. The two male giraffes swing their necks aggressively, making a loud thumping sound when they make contact with each other.
