The accommodation is absolutely beautiful, with very nice details. They also left us some sweets and tea as a welcome gift, and every day they gave us a large bottle of water. The only thing I didn’t like is that during the day people come to take photos at the property, and there is quite a lot of noise until almost 10pm. Sometimes it can be annoying to hear people taking photos right outside your room. Apart from that, the accommodation is great.

Lovely, new and clean property with spacious rooms. Excellent location within the ancient city, and the staff and manager go out of their way to provide inputs and suggestions for your trip. Breakfast is also fairly substantial. Room also has all the amenities you need for your trip. Overall great stay and recommend this to everyone with a Datong plan!

Perfect stay! Although one night is bit too short! The owner was very friendly and helpful, they reached out to us the day before our arrival and asked if we need pickup from the train station. Once we arrived, a lady came to pick us up from outside of the ancient city as the car couldn’t drive into the ancient town. Free water in the room and we were given some free shaji juice and vinegar. The room was incredibly clean and beautiful with the ancient look furnitures and comfy at the same time. We would love to stay again if ever come back. Highly recommend this room for couples!

the staff was friendly and the inn is very cute. the toilet was a bit dirty but nothing a good disposable toilet seat cover couldn't solve. wifi and AC heating are great. breakfast was amazing. the only complaint is that check out took longer than usual (staff wasn't present) and we weren't given any bottle of typical vinegar :/

We loved our stay in Taiyuan and this was probably the best overall hotel of our trip! If you can't find it in the alley simply walk into the most beautiful entrance. The interior designer must have been happy as well, lots of nice artwork and style, very nice room, comfy bed, great breakfast buffet. Perfect location yet quiet, in the old centre full of shops and restaurants, buzzy nightlife, don't miss the 'Paris Baguette' in the same alley! By the way, to get to the wonderful Jinci Temple we simply took the subway to Xiqiao and then a Didi.

Cosy historical building done up very nicely. Room was well renovated, owner super friendly and very accommodating, we asked for more water, toilet paper, different type of breakfast etc all happy to oblige. 10 minutes walk to light show, 10m walk to center of ancient city where most of the historical sites were. 10m walk to outside where the best food is..DO NOT eat inside the old city, food outside much better. Owner also arranged for car to take us to Wang Family compound and Shuanglian temple at much better price than I could find anywhere online. and private transfer to/from train station as well. Very happy I booked to stay at this location. Breakfast was EXCELLENT

Location: Located in the heart of Pingyao just a few minutes from many of the main attraction and the flag tower
Hotel: Modern and clean rooms with Japanese toilet and a good bed. The ambiance of the hotel is also very nice designed around an old Qing dynasty courtyard
Service: the hotel team picked me up and dropped me off at the high speed train station in Pingyao which worked flawlessly. In general the hotel team was very attentive and tried their best to solve any questions.
Can definitely recommend as a foreigner to stay here

It's safe to say this was the best hotel in China so far (and I've been to many cities). They offer a free pickup service to and from the city gate, from where you can easily reach the train station using a taxi (around 20 RMB). The hotel is located in the center of the ancient city, which really boosts the great vibe it gives. The hotel buildings are very old but in fantastic shape (like built yesterday). It really feels amazing just walking to your room through the country yard. The whole staff was fluent in English and extremely welcoming and generous.
The room itself was very spacious and tremendously clean. It had all amenities needed like a heating and cooling AC, exclusive wifi router. The bath had extra shoes and even a hairdryer. We got fresh toothbrushes and toothpaste. The bath tub is also amazing and the rain shower has great temperature (which is important to me, as I don't like fiddling with the water mixer).
If you plan to stay in Pingyao (ancient city) I can wholeheartedly recommend this place and will definitely book it again for my next trip to pingyao.

This is without doubt the ideal place to stay in Pingyao Gucheng. It is located pretty much equidistant from the 4 gate towers - smack in the middle of the ancient town. It is right at the edge of the no-car zone (which is approximately the Southern half of the Gucheng), and this means that the hotel's car can drop you off right at the hotel's gate, and there is no need to roll your luggage down a street or transfer from car to electric cart. The Gucheng's main street is 5 minutes' walk away, easy access to all the restaurants, shops and main attractions. The hotel oozes old world charm, yet is up-to-date with modern amenities like heating in both room and bathroom, comfortable beds, key cards, etc. Hygiene and service were impeccable. The driver picked us up from and dropped us back at the high-speed train station on time, front desk staff checked on our needs all the time, helped with our bags (driver calling ahead before arriving), gave us daily fruit platters and water, etc. We had a fantastic time, and felt more taken care of than anywhere else on this month-long trip in China. Definitely recommend this hotel.

VVieraskäyttäjäWe had the best stay at Elswhwere Hotel West Gate. The building is restored it the nicest way really gives you the feeling of timetravel. The people working in the hotel, were carrying and welcoming. They explained us how to navigate the city, helped us buy tickets for the city sights, recommend restaurants and we even got a room upgrade and lovely gifts to take home and remember our time in Pingyao.
The bed was so comfortable and we had the best sleep. Can recommend this hotel full heartedly. Would definitely come back! Thank you Helen and Fenny for making our stay so memorable.

Until 10 years ago it was a derelict and dilapidated building. He poured money, time, blood, sweat and tears to restore it
And it does feel and look like a traditional house.
You feel you are going back in time.
Firstly the customer service is way beyond the call of duty. Its so good, i would recommend staying with mr Wang at whatever hotel he runs.
He picked us at the Lower East Gate, and brought us to the hotel, then took nearly half an hour to explain in great detail where we need to visit, whether the sights be in the city or outside the city.
Some of his suggestions, not on the tour books were very good . For example he suggested 3 restaurants, and we avoided them thinking he was getting a kickback.on our 4th and last day we tried restaurant no 2 of his. And it was good , the food and service were good. The prices were average with other restaurants and we got a 10% discount being the hotel's guests. And remember we had eaten 10 meals by the time we came to his suggestions.
Another suggestion of Mr Wang was Ma family home - also a very good tip from him.
Everytime we had a request or question he always responded with enthusiasm.
On our last day we checked out at 4am and he still took us to the pick up point at that ungodly hour.
Yep Mr and Mrs Wang's customer service is just first class.
The room was large, queen deluxe double, and the furnishings were traditional chinese furniture made of Rosewood. Very Expensive furniture for a hotel room. Shower worked well and was hot. However be aware its chinese style wet floor system ie there is no shower curtain between the shower and a small part of the bathroom does get wet if youare not careful. MR Wang said it will be one his improvement on his priority list. Hopefully by the time you booked the problem will have been resolved
The hotel is very close to the main streets. About 5 min walk.
The city of pingyao is worth visiting, it is one of the very walled cities left in China, with its old buildings intact and people still living it. All the city walls are also intact. Magnificent at night.

RRach316I had a truly wonderful stay at this charming courtyard hotel in Pingyao, a perfect 10/10 experience. Although it’s a small property with only about 6–8 rooms, everything about it feels thoughtfully done and beautifully presented. The hotel is newly renovated, with tasteful decorations that blend traditional character with a fresh, comfortable atmosphere.
What impressed me the most was the owner. He is incredibly friendly, warm, and genuinely helpful, his service goes far beyond expectations. From the moment I arrived, I felt well taken care of, and his sincerity really made the stay special.
Location is superb! The room was spotless, one of the cleanest I’ve experienced. I actually walked around and looked at a few other motels in Pingyao, and I can confidently say this one stands out as the best in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and overall quality. On top of all that, the price is very reasonable for what you get. It’s rare to find a place that offers such great value together with such heartfelt hospitality. Highly, highly recommended , I would definitely stay here again.

They took initiative to giving us suggestions on 'primary' attractions and recommending us localized dishes, stalls and restaurants, which turned out to be very good.
They also arranged to pick us up from the entrance (normal car cannot enter Pingyao Gucheng) and send us to Pingyao Gucheng station (high-speed train station) on our last day - both for free.
They helped arrange a private car to take us to the places we wanted to visit (Wang Jia Da Yan & Mianshan) - we had to pay, of course.
On check-out day, the receptionist gave us a surprise by gifting us a small bottle of localized vinegar which added on to our pleasant stay.
In our travel experiences in more than 10 countries (& many hotels), the receptionist from this hotel was 1 of the best.
Room was clean and no cigarette smell inside the room and within hotel premises. Towels were clean and smelled fresh.
One small issue was that the water pressure from the hand-held shower head was weak. But the water pressure from rain-shower head was still acceptable.
The hotel interior was very ancient-like which was very pretty and met what we expected. No disappointment.
Hotel location was very good. A few footsteps away from bustling streets. The bustling streets were full of variety of shops -- restaurants, souvenirs, snacks, attractions, and many more.
There was no vegetarian restaurant inside Pingyao Gucheng, however, you could easily ask the restaurant staff to cook vegetarian meal for you -- just need a bit of explaining what you want to exclude from your meal, it's quite easy.

VVieraskäyttäjäI can’t stop raving about this inn. It is a B&B style three stories tall inn located inside the Datong Ancient City. Complimentary shuttle service between the airport or railway station made it really convenient for out of town travelers. The guest room was clean and equipped with modern facilities like automatic toilets, coded entry, projection screens, etc. The inn is located near the north gate of the city amongst other accommodations. Within minutes of walking is access to the top of the city wall where bike rental is available to ride along the wall. The inn is very quiet at night. The inn is family operated and everyone was very hospitable. What sets this inn apart from other accommodations in the area is their dedication to service. The owner knew I was a tourist and new to the area, she offered to pick me up if I got lost wandering the ancient city. The breakfast came with my reservation. When the owner found out I had to depart before breakfast serving hours, she went above and beyond to prepare food and served me 30 minutes ahead of schedule. The food tasted amazing and came with abundant varieties and huge portions. It was definitely not part of the service to drop off at another venue, but the owner took me to my next accommodation 2km away. I truly appreciate everything this inn and its staff has done for me. I am so glad to have chosen to stay this beautiful little inn on my first night in Datong. I will definitely stay here again without a doubt on my next visit.

We have really enjoyed our stay here, the hosts are incredibly hospitable, they arranged to pick us up and drop us off at the train station and are very accommodating and kind. The rooms are beautiful and it is great to stay somewhere that feels very traditional.
