We had a very disappointing experience at The Burrator Inn recently. We ordered olives, one starter, and two mains. While the olives came first, the starter and both mains were brought out together. When I mentioned that I’d expected the starter to arrive before the mains, the waitress seemed surprised. My main was taken away with the explanation that it would be kept “under the hot lamp” until I’d finished the starter. A few minutes later, I asked for my main again and was told it was being remade. My partner slowed down their eating so we could try to eat together, but 25 minutes later their plate was empty and mine still hadn’t arrived. I went to the bar and spoke to the manager to find out what was going on, only to be told “sorry,” with the blame placed on the waitstaff. No attempt at compensation, no real apology, just finger-pointing. We ended up leaving at that point. Mistakes can happen in hospitality, but the lack of communication, poor coordination, and complete absence of accountability or care made for a thoroughly frustrating experience. Sadly, I won’t be rushing back.
