Yarm View Guest House and Cottages

The owners are selfish people, who were just interested in taking money! I am not impressed by the way I was treated. I would advise anyone thinking of staying here to look for a better alternative and avoid the Yarm View Guest House. A bad experience

This guest hotel is located in a very quiet town, Yarm, with a lot of history (I didn't get the chance to tour around since I was on a business trip). If you are looking for quiet place to stay, this is the place for you. At night time, it's very quiet (after 10pm or so) as the shops on this road close early (except a few open late, not sure if they are bars or not). There are coffee shops nearby for breakfast and the people in this town are ultra friendly. The owner was very helpful and friendly in providing instructions on how to get to my room. The room seems to be newly renovated and it was clean. The only downside was that the walls are not soundproof since it's an old building (you can hear the others walking in the other room due to floor creeks). For my next visit, I will still consider Yarm View Guest House for a quiet stay.

When booking the pictures made it look nicer than it is, flaking paint, dirt everywhere, furniture falling apart and the squeakiest bed I've ever had the misfortune to try to sleep in. The best part of the stay was leaving.

WARNING! This place is to be avoided. Generally, I do not leave reviews. However, in this case I feel compelled to warn people away in the same way I would if I saw someone staggering toward a minefield. Initially, I booked a ‘double room’ for my wife and I on ***********. I phoned the owner to ensure our details had been processed correctly. He informed me the ‘double room’ was not suitable for two people and advised I cancel the original booking, then call him back to rebook directly for something suitable. I can only assume he did this to avoid paying the fee. I followed his instructions, and he arranged a ‘cottage’, which he said would be ideal. He also insisted we pay cash upon arrival. We found the premises to be in a terribly poor state of repair. Walls required painting, mould on bathroom window frames, sub-standard furniture (couldn’t sell it at a car boot), eclectic cutlery etc. The owner has not maintained the property to the standard any reasonably minded person would think acceptable. We purchased ingredients for our dinner, but it transpired the oven was faulty and produced no heat. We called the owner and requested he fixed oven, he came to the cottage but could not make it work. He suggested we grill our fresh, whole chicken (slowly). I said this was not a sensible solution to which he replied. “What do you want me to do? It’s a bank holiday!” We found his attitude rather aggressive and dismissive, clearly not a people person. We made the mistake of leaving it late to find somewhere to stay and paid a heavy price. Whatever you do, ignore the good reviews, which bear no resemblance to reality and find somewhere better. It won’t be difficult! It’s a shame because the location is good, sadly in the wrong hands. Have a good holiday, elsewhere..
