The Moorland Hotel

Staff were lovely. Very friendly and service was excellent. Breakfast was amazing. The only negative thing we could say is the building needs a little TLC

This is our second visit to this hotel. We stayed two years and absolutely loved it. Beautiful views, nice location, etc. However, it's under new ownership. The staff are friendly and the food is ok, but we had issues with cleanliness. I dropped my sunglasses behind the headboard. When I pulled the bed back to retrieve them, I was appalled. I don't think it had been cleaned for years, with thick dust everywhere. The dining room window sill and radiator where we sat, were also filthy. I wouldn't stay again which is a shame, come on guys, get busy decorating and cleaning.

The hotel location is quite spectacular with wonderful views on the moors or towards Plymouth and the coast. The staff are truly wonderful and can't do enough. The desk is staffed all day and it is easy to ask questions or make requests. The bar is comfortable with an outdoor section and the atmosphere is peaceful but friendly. The restaurant has tasty food and serves a variety of tastes. It is open in the evenings but the bar is open for drinks a lot of the time. If you want your room serviced every day, you would have to enquire about this but it is not difficult to get what you want every day. We have been coming here for some years and have always enjoyed the experience as it is an opportunity to recharge in the middle of the beautiful moors. The car park on site is quite spacious and should be enough most weekends. Given the choice we would not stay anywhere else in Devon.

This is our third visit to this hotel. Don't be fooled by the outside! We had a lovely room with a fabulous view over the moors. Room quite large with nice en-suite bathroom. Very clean and the bed was comfortable. The food in this hotel is outstanding. I’m gluten free and they can adapt most meals on the menu to suit. The staff are so friendly and very helpful. The best thing is dogs are welcome so we could take our little pup with us! We will definitely be back again in thing too distant future.

My partner and I came for a two-night stay. We arrived with a very warm welcome. Our room was lovely. Very cosy. The bed was quite high, but I think that's because I'm only 5'2 "😂 We had a bath and a shower in our room. The water does take a while to get hot but that is explained on a notice about the pump system. The hotel could do with a bit of a touch-up, but then again, so could my house. We then went down for dinner in the restaurant. I had scampi to start, and my partner had dumplings (chicken). Both were delicious, as I tried his! I had duck for my main course my partner had cod and chips. He said it was one of the best he'd had. The next day we had breakfast which you pay for. We had bacon, sausage, egg, mushrooms and grilled tomato. Toast and preserve, coffee and juice. That set us up for the day. That night we ate again in the restaurant. We didn't have starters because we wanted dessert. I had the chicken tikka masala. My partner had the sea bream. He said it was very nice. I told the chef, who was Nepalese, that his chicken tikka was the best I'd ever had. It was so creamy and not a trace of oil on the top. My partner had sorbet for dessert. I had the ice cream. Overall, we cannot fault anything. The staff were so polite and friendly, they couldn't do enough for you. I would definitely recommend this hotel. I can't wait to go back.

We had a 2 night mid week break. It was wonderful. The staff could not do enough for you . We had a room with a balcony and a sea view . Really nice. Right on the edge of the moors so a nice mist in the morning. We had 2 meals and 2 breakfast on each day . These were very good and reasonably priced. Rooms are clean and tidy . Overall a wonderful time . Will definitely go back .
