Tried to pop in for Sunday lunch before we left to travel home, when we walked in everyone stopped to look at us like we had 6 heads, Apart from the 2 barmaids that never took their heads out of their phones!! I asked if they were still serving Sunday dinner to which I got a mumbled yes I asked if they had a table for 6 and I was totally ignored not one member of staff would make eye contact with me!! It was dark, dingey and dirty so we went across the road to the No1 hotel and wine bar where we were actually made to feel welcome!!!

Really great stay. Lovely little village that was very tranquil. The room was lovely. Really spacious and clean. Breakfast was great and the staff were really friendly. The locals were really friendly and we had a great night in the pub. Private Parking was good too.

We stayed for one night on the way up to the Highlands. Huge very comfortable room with a little table and comfy chairs. Lovely four poster bed which was also comfortable. WiFi available. Also had phone reception (02). Breakfast was great. Even though this was just a one night stay we would be keen to return and stay for longer. Looks like there is lots to do in the area.

Stayed here for one night whilst walking the St Cuthberts Way. Warmly greeted on arrival and quickly checked into our room.Bedbroom was a great size with two chairs and a table set in the bay window and had all that one needs for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was fine with all the usual choices. All in all a good hotel for a short stay.

Cosy, clean and comfortable. Stayed for 3 nights and alart from the bathroom door not closing properly, the room was great and well-equipped. Didn’t have breakfast but wished we had, as it looked very nice. Parking to the rear of the hotel was free.

Warm welcome on arrival. Fenton (Room #14) very nice - new build extension to Pub/ Hotel. Room Actually Impeccable. Hazel the cleaner. Only -ve is dull noise (vibration like) from someplace !!! But stops at 9pm so not an issue for sleeping. Cosy little bar - very Village Pub'ish. WiFi good. Food good - varied Menu. Definitely would stay again. Suggestion : I would have situated the bed on the long wall so looking out the window - nice view towards village rather than looking at internal wall ! Curtain on lower half of window would offer more privacy.

Really great one night stay - far exceeded expectations. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and well appointed with very good range of complementary extras (including shower gels, biscuits, fancy coffees etc) as wel as the usual fair. Shower and shower room were a bit small but no real issue. The staff were all really friendly, welcoming and couldn't be nicer. The breakfast was also excellent. Great value. Recommended.

Went for a drink with our dog, what a warm welcome, fire glowing, lovely barmaid, best pint of carling ever! So dog friendly too. Will definitely go back tomorrow. Might even book a room next time in wooler, change from caravan site

We stopped for a night en route to Aberdeen and had a great visit. The room was lovely, the bar was cosy and traditional with well-prices beer but the standout was the breakfast. The lady serving it was absolutely lovely, and the food was excellent. Honestly, the best full English I think I’ve had. None of those cheapo plastic pots of jam either, nice little jars of the proper stuff. This and the value means the Black Bull is now going to be our regular stop off when we make this trip. Can’t wait to come back!
