Residence Inn Deptford

Front desk had excellent customer service. The room was dirty. The remote fell behind the bed. It was cereal, old pictures, and plain filth. When they come to clean the room, they don't put new fresh linens. The room was vacuumed with a vacuum that filter needs to be replaced, it left an odor.

Unfortunatelly some Marriott hotels are becoming motels. This one is a good example, smelly room with portable AC unit with pipe sticking out the window, mold in the bathroom. I stayed over 50 nights at Marriott hotels this year mostly Fairfield, Residence and Springhill. Some of them are still nice living up to the Marriott name, others are dirty and look very tired. I will start avoiding older Residence Inn properties.

Clean and spacious room. Property is in need of renovation. Front desk staff friendly, courteous and helpful. Good location. Rooms are spacious and well furnished. Bed was comfortable and well dressed. Well located for Philly and south jersey.

Ok so I didn't want to have to make this review, but Marriott gave me no choice. They have NOT done anything to make this right. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite with a full kitchen, plus another regular room. The lobby was nice - bright and clean looking. That's as far as the good went. We stayed at this hotel - hell, for two nights that were horrendous. As soon as we found another facility - we LEFT. We complained at the front desk but the Manager never called us while we were there. We left in the night and she never called after we left. We contacted Marriott customer service and they did nothing but tell me that the manager would call us. She hasn't. She refunded us for the night we left - but did nothing about the horrendous disgusting time we stayed. We couldn't find a place over the weekend for 3 rooms of people. We had family events and reunions planned and spent way too much time dealing with this, taking away precious family time. So, what did we endure? Filth, debris on the floors, moldy sippee cup behind the curtains, old toys and tiny choking hazards ( we had a toddler in the room who could have picked up anything) The kitchen had BLACK MOLD inside. The floors were dirty. The couch was broken down and belonged in the dumpster. The police roamed the halls for suspicious persons etc. The worst part? That was the MICE that were running around our room. We had a long day and returned to the room to relax before bedtime, and saw MICE running under the sofa!!! The front desk said the mice were in most of the rooms. They didn't even have any mouse traps to catch them. We stuffed towels under the door to the baby's room so they wouldn't crawl on her. We had no where to go. The next day we found another hotel and moved out immediately. Marriott still charged us full price. No one has contacted me. I have had to call customer service over and over. They say their policy is NO REFUNDS. They said they could give me some Marriott Reward points to cover 1 night in another hotel. SERIOUSLY. I only attached 6 photos, but there are more. Marriott didn't seem to think my issue was worth more than a few Marriott Points. I am very disappointed. The manager has NOT contacted me - aside from 1 email telling me that she resolved the issue. I will say the staff was nice. But they couldn't do anything to fix the problems. No managers were around over the weekend. There was a woman named Karen in the breakfast room that was kind and did her job well. But, if there are mice in all the rooms - I bet they are in the kitchen.

The rooms were clean -- dated, but clean. Everything that we needed to work was working. However, towards the end of our stay, I wanted to be courteous and put our dirty dishes in the dishwasher. There was a stench that came out because of the stagnant water in the dishwasher -- it wasn't working. Check-in was at 4 PM and our room wasn't ready until 7:09PM. Ouch. I even checked in online the day prior to our arrival to let them know that we're coming. Shouldn't the housekeeping staff be alerted to prioritize certain rooms especially if there was a prior notification on the kind of rooms reserved on that day? We were given keys to a room but the cleaning person is still cleaning it and had no clue that we're expected. Went back to the front desk and they told me that our room wasn't going to be ready for another hour. Nope -- make that 3 hours. We're in the area for a wedding that started at 5:30 PM and the rest of our family stayed at the nearby Courtyard by Marriott. Their rooms were available by 2 PM, for a 3 PM check-in. I was fortunate enough that I could use their rooms to prepare for the wedding. Somewhat saving grace in this facility was this nice elderly lady in the kitchen staff. She was very courteous and accommodating for our breakfast. Everything was well presented and the place was very clean and inviting. The breakfast area listed the time opening at 7 AM on a Saturday. They weren't ready until 9 AM. Many of the guests were already complaining that we weren't notified ahead of time -- that breakfast availability would be late. The food choices were decent. Good stuff: 3 different kinds of eggs (spinach quiche, scrambled, hard boiled) were offered and all were fresh. There were bagels and sliced wholewheat bread and there was a working toaster. Many of the pastries were in wrapped packaging, the kind you'd find in a gas station store/bodega, but they still looked good. Individual cereal cups along with single-serving milk bottles. Wrapped apple slices were the only options for fresh fruit. Their juice dispenser was also working -- apple, orange, cranberry and water. Coffee and hot water for tea and hot chocolate were available. Oh, we could hear highway noise. The windows are not soundproof and maybe the wall insulation/sound barrier does not exist. If you're sensitive to this stuff, then ask to be on the side not facing the highway. Overall, this hotel "tried their best." We were told that they are understaffed, and this could be a reason why everything was delayed. It's a decent hotel if all you need is a clean place to rest and a decent breakfast in the morning. If timing is everything for you, this place is not it.

Pre covid this was a great property; management was attentive and there were never any issues with the rooms. On this stay the following happened. The oven was filthy, housekeeping came to clean it but could not remove all the food stains. In addition, they left a mess in the sink in the kitchen. There was no hot water at the kitchen sink. The alarm clock did not work. None of the TVs on the treadmills or ellipticals worked. The light under the microwave was burned out. The air conditioner was hard to regulate. The toilet paper holder was broken. There was a problem with the nightly rate, but the front desk staff corrected the mistake. The full breakfast was appreciated. It seems this Marriott property is not immune from the similar problems that are happening at the other Marriott brands, Courtyard, Fairfield, Town Place etc.

Run the other way if you want a hotel that is comfortable , clean and provides the service you expect from a Residence Inn. I have stayed a many Marriott properties and Marriott should revoke this owners franchise. The check in should have been a clue about how the hotel is run. Titanium level upgrades are “not available” when hotel is clearly not sold out, no lobby coffee outside breakfast hours, a $10 per night parking fee in a suburban area, AND unlike EVERY other residence Inn in the world the pet fee is PER Pet when it is no where stated or implied until you get the surprise on the bill. We had two rooms and each had something broken, burned out dirty or as with my mothers room, a heater that was so loud it kept her up at night. Don’t go here and go to an Inn keeper who respects their guests. They forget why they are in business.

Residence Inn is our go-to hotel brand, but this was our worst Residence Inn experience, by far. Hotel Management is trying to milk everything it can before doing a major reno, and it shows. The hotel is dirty, tired, very dated, and the staff had a "who cares" attitude. The one positive is that we were upgraded to a two-bedroom suite (for just my wife and I) that was comfortable but tired. We'll steer clear of this hotel in the future.
