OYO 348 Ocean Bay Surf Resort

Honestly the worst hotel experience of my life. To start, they force me to pay much higher price than I booked online because apparently that was the “dollar price” not the local price. They then pretended like they were giving me a free upgrade to an air conditioned room (even though I booked that anyway). The room was like a prison cell with no light, bars on the window (you literally can’t see out). The WiFi would not work at all in my room; they said they would fix but never did. There were also frequent power cuts. In the end I decided to leave early and asked if they could refund me for the nights I have yet to stay. They refused. I don’t like leaving negative reviews but in this case I think it’s justified so others don’t make my mistake.

Great location, great service and very responsible price 🙂❤️ We have very fun. We leaned surf very well. The Manager is very kind man. New roof top is niceee. Rooms & services are good. Best hotel at Matara. Thank You! We will come back again!

I spent a month in this hotel. What was good: 1. Location - it's 5 min walk from the ocean and surf spots. There is a couple of good cafes nearby. 2. The quality of the room/price ratio was also good for me. 3. There was an AC in the room and it worked well. 4. There is a fridge and the electric kettle on the floor. 5. The staff helped to make some adjustments in the room for a longer stay. 6. And overall the staff is helpful. Thank you, guys. 7. The manager of the hotel Mr. Viduschan has a really good heart. 8. There's a pool in fron of the hotel. I used it only once at night. And I really liked it. 9. Cleaning was done every time I asked. And it was done well. 10. There's railroad tracks near and the train goes by several times a day. It was a fun experience for me. Didn't bother at all. 11. There are tanks with filtered water on the first floor and you can replenish your water supplies every time you want. What I didn't quite like: 1. It was very damp in the bathroom. The water from the shower gets right on the floor which is common in Sri-Lanka. And the bathroom is constantly wet and humid. In this bathroom it led to a lot of small midges and mosquitos constantly inhabiting the walls. I had to get rid of them every day. 2. The pillow cases, bed sheets and the towels sometimes were with holes in them, or stains or smell. Like not fully cleaned. In this cases I asked to change them and the staff helped. 3. There's a small kitchen on the floor but from the way it was - I had no desire at all to cook something there. It was almost not equipped. 4. I had some difficulties with the laundry first. But also with the help of staff we could work that through. 5. There's a cafe "Blanc" on top of the hotel. I remember at least 6 times when they turned on loud music at different times of the day. I had to come to them and ask to turn it down a little so that I could have a conference call. But every time they turned it down. Overall, I liked staying in Ocean Surf Bay. Quality/price ratio was good for me. It was a good experience for me. The location is once again very good. Thank you, Mr. Vidu and dear staff for this month!
