Before I start the review I would like to point out I did speak to the Manageress of the hotel in the vain hope that my complaints would be taken seriously and acted upon. I hate to write negative reviews but in 30 years of travelling with my wife have never felt the need to check out of a hotel early. On arriving at the hotel (which we had stopped at last year for a couple of drinks) we were disappointed to see the courtyard entrance was now unkempt with weeds growing, making it look really shabby. However, we were met by a thoroughly pleasant chap by the name of Travis whom was clearly trying to do his best, was friendly and wearing many hats! We were shown to our accommodation called the Pool Room (a brick detached outbuilding by the pool) and on opening the door was met with the distinct and overwhelming stench of damp. It was small as we had expected but was unclean with a clump of hair in plain sight by the bathroom door (looked like it had been pulled from a hairbrush). Generally the room was more than tired, marks on the wall. Curtains not on the rail properly, and the large tv as advertised, was the size of a small computer monitor and didn't work. Wifi non existent. But hey, we're on holiday and it things like tv and wifi shouldn't matter. There were fag ends in the planter outside and a random sheet of plywood, balanced on the gazebo above the decking, one can only imagine this must have been placed there as a sun shade - a bit weird! We decided to try and make the most of it by having a couple of hours by the pool outside (the pictures on the web make it look stunning) however, the reality was broken/rickety furniture, with dirty cushions strewn around the area, and a very unstable fence near the cliff edge (you wouldn't want your kids near there). Having already booked a meal elsewhere for the evening, we got back just after 10pm and thought we would try and embrace the situation and have a couple of drinks in the bar. However, the Manageress informed us that she was just about to close the bar, although she did get us a drink and then disappeared, not even telling us that she was leaving for the night and leaving us in semi darkness. A number of other people came into the bar to order drinks but gave up after waiting some considerable time. Eventually the deputy manager came downstairs to say that he had been texted by the manageress asking him to lock up, even though it was his day off and he was in bed. He was really lovely and offered to get us a drink free of charge to make up for the debacle but we declined and headed for bed. Breakfast was good and no complaints on that front. We made the decision to check and when I spoke to the Manageress on leaving and let her know our reasons why, she said they have never had any complaints whilst she had been there from anyone under the age of 35 about The Pool Room and it was noted on the website that it might not be suitable for people over that age. What!!! Do peo
