The Inn on Onset Bay

Quiet Space Clean and Echo Friendly!

I will start with the positive: 1. The “inn” is in a fabulous location across from the beach in Onset. 3. The person who greeted us was expecting us and greeted us in a friendly manner and gave us our key cards. The negative: 1. The moment we opened the door there was a strong and unmistakable mildew/mold odor. 2. We figured out when we went to operate the lights that in order to get ANY power to the room, that we had to place one of our key cards in a slot mounted on the wall next to the switches. This was NOT communicated to us when we were handed the 2 cards. As soon as we inserted it, we heard the little refrigerator turn on and the lights all functioned. 3. It was 60 degrees F in the room when we entered it. We turned it up to 70 but it took several hours for the room to warm up. We never felt truly warm on a cold rainy day & night. The ceiling fan was dusty so we did not want to switch it on and add dust to the mildew/mold already present in the air. 4. There is a small electric heater mounted in the bathroom wall, but it is non- functioning. This was most unfortunate because what appears to be an air intake in the middle of the bathroom floor was sending a cold breeze into the room. 5. In every area of the room there were maintenance and cosmetic issues screaming to be addressed. This includes amateur paint jobs, chipped, scratched, peeling paint. a. In one area it was apparent that there had been a piece of furniture against a corner of a wall and it was chipped down to the wall board. b. The bathroom door - a hollow door -had obviously been smashed in and poorly repaired. c. The ONE window in the room, in the bathroom, had peeling paint around it. d. The shower stall had water damage where it connected to the wall and the interior had an area of decay and rust. e. The hinges behind the bathroom door were installed without enough space and paint was all chipped and scratched. f. The threshold under the bathroom door had been painted and who we did it got paint on the floor and didn’t clean it off. BTW, said floor was old linoleum tile that has to date back to the 70s at least. g. The covering on the bathroom mirror is peeling. h. There is a hole in the wall above the bed where there was probably a wall sconce at one point, but the hole was never repaired. I. There is a lightweight wooden wardrobe that rattles and was painted with what appears to be a single coat of flat white paint without a primer so all the knots in the wood show through. I have included several photos of much of the above. So here’s my beef; 1. When someone has a reservation and are expected to arrive, the owner should turn on the power and the heat well ahead of time so the fridge is cold and the air is warm upon arrival 2. The painting and repair issues should be addressed by someone who knows how to paint and repair. 3. Mold & mildew are serious air quality issues that can contribute to breathing issues and must be addressed! 4. The website is visually misle

The location is great with a nice view of Onset Bay. The inn is right on the road across from the bay. Traffic can get busy and a little noisy and parking is very limited. Check in was easy and the staff was great. Room was clean and large. close to places to grab a bite to eat.

Loved the place. It was a little bit jaded, but it was the end of the season. Bay view rooms are excellent, brilliant views. Onset bay is a really nice place to spend a few days. Traffic noise from the road out front is not good, perhaps some better double glazing would help.

Parking was over-subscribed.
