Shillingford Bridge Hotel

It was an experience however, we wont return. £97 for the night wasn’t even the cheapest in the area! Its very tired, dirty and run down. We booked an accessible room and was given first floor with no lift. Luckily not in a wheelchair chair but still had low mobility. It wasn’t great I fell downstairs on the first evening as the tread on the stairs are very narrow, the carpet is up and the tape is barely holding it together. The place is literally held together by gaffa tape, I struggle to see how they are meeting basic health and safety. The room Had sockets off the wall which were live. Shower had parts missing from it. Bed bases broken and dirty. No heating working so was given a floor heater with no pat testing on it. Holes in the wall. List goes on. There was some good bits The staff are very friendly. Breakfast had a good selection for the buffet. No hot coffee or hot selection though. Parking was free. Good views of the river. This place has potential to be amazing due to the location. But needs about £100k spending on it. Also: Be warned of the recommended Taxis from the hotel, they are very expensive. £64 to go 4 miles, they were called Go Green taxi, it wasn’t even late at 4pm in the afternoon! When asked for the meter was told they don’t have one as private hire!

Lovely hotel in a beautiful location! The riverside setting makes for a lovely view! We stayed in a spacious suite and were accommodated with an extra bed with no problem at all. Decor is a little dated and the accommodation could have been a little cleaner however, the staff were wonderful and the breakfast was great! We would stay here again, thank you for a lovely stay!

My husband and myself booked to stay in a twin room for two nights. If it hadn’t been so late in the evening when we arrived we would have walked straight out again. It is the scruffiest dirtiest hotel I have ever been to. All the skirting boards were dirty and chipped and the carpets were grubby and that was before we reached the room. On entering the twin room what met us was a disgrace. Chipped wooden furniture and grubby walls. The bathroom smelled terrible there was bare copper piping in the shower( which we couldn’t even bear to step in to). The toilet seat was broken. The only positives were that the bedding was immaculately clean and the toilet itself was very clean too. The beds were hard and very squeaky if you turned over. The curtains didn’t meet when they were closed so therefore letting in the floodlighting from the yard at the back of the hotel through black mould covered metal window frames. We checked out without breakfast as we couldn’t bear to stay a moment longer.

Amazing staff and location. Made wedding day of my niece the best day. Every thing ran smoothly and Betina helped with all the arrangements from the beginning. We booked approx 20 rooms and most have been refurbished and are very clean and comfy. Breakfast was included and was really nice. The wedding breakfast was amazing. Food was well cooked and very tasty. Would like to thank Betina and all the staff for making it so special

We stayed one night here and, apart from the location and the, friendly staff, we were very disappointed. THe public areas of the hotel were badly in need of renovation and refreshing. I understand that there is refurbishment ongoing, but the levels of cleanliness throughout the hotel were very poor. Dust, stains on walls and carpets could easily be remedied. Our room was poor. Multiple Stains on the paintwork, especially in the bathroom. A dirty shower curtain; ancient valence on the bed; a stale and unpleasant smell in bedroom and bathroom; no mattress or pillow protectors; dust on headboard and skirting board; curtain falling off rail; stains on room furniture e.g. chair cushions; no hot water for showers etc. etc. It was so bad we opted out of a hot breakfast and left as early as we could. We paid £120 for the stay and feel let down and ripped off. When we handed the key back to reception, it was notable that the receptionist did not ask us how our stay was. Says it all really. Nothing at all to recommend about this hotel.

We had a Groupon deal for one nights dinner, bed and breakfast. This was good value for money. The meals were very nice and well presented. The room was a river view room (we upgraded) which was pleasant with a good shower in the bathroom. The staff were extremely helpful.

Food is amazing quality . Rooms comfortable. Undergoing refurbishment. Very welcoming professional staff . Table service impressive . Views of the river and boats mooring there . Nice walks near buy . Free parking close to Wallingford historic town

I've since removed the review under booking. Com as the review was correct but under a different booking family member. Again, my review is solely on a double room booked room number 22. Worn out carpets on stairs up to the room. The shower rail wouldn't stay upright on the riser rail, so we reported to reception. Only to be told that no technician was available. Breakfast was very slow due to a staff shortage . Excellent location, but in definite need of refurbishment. Apparently, the hotel is on with this, but it is definitely at a slow pace

This hotel is perfect if your looking for a time warp the room I stayed in (number 6) was from the 90s very basic there was a bag of rubbish left from previous occupants if I could have found somewhere else I would have. I couldn’t use the kettle as there was an aroma of urine in it, however the staff were all very friendly and accommodating and the views are lovely, I can’t comment on food as I didn’t eat there, the room was always cleaned up but the hallways could do with a bit more housekeeping. Book wisely
