The rooms in this hotel are nice . Modern , clean , comfy, everything works. I phoned up , mid afternoon , had come in from the country for a day , needed to stay the night , yes they had a room , close to $180 was the price . On check in at the bar the receptionist explained that she needed to take another $200 from my account as security . I was told in case I had dinner , drinks or room service . I told her I would only require the room . There was no mini bar in the room . I do not need that anyway. When I raised my eyebrows at her request I was told I will get my money back in about a week ! I said how about I give you cash for the deposit , then I can pick it up in the morning , yes fine , but I have to wait until 9 am , I would be leaving at 7 am. She said she will reduce the deposit to $100 and proceeded to charge my card . I do not know if I received my deposit back yet . I do not do internet banking . Perhaps someone could check if my deposit was returned to my account please ????? I suggested to the lady that it might be a better solution for the business and guests to simply register the credit card details in the ‘VAULT ‘ section of her computer reservation system as all modern systems allow , like Guest Point for instance , thus allowing the guests to avoid the inconvenience of having to check up and wait to see if the refund was indeed refunded. At least if your business is going ahead with this very inconvenient practice to at least email the guest registering when the refund has been processed. I think registering a persons credit card number in a vault situation is acceptable , if there are damages or people have a drink or room service , the card can be charged . But deducting an amount of $200 up front is not reasonable in my view. Nor is it conducive to me ever wanting to stay at this hotel again. I am a middle aged woman , travelling on my own . I drive a decent car and present myself well . If I was treated like this because I presented ‘dodgy’ I would be even further disappointed in my experience with the hotel. I did decide that I will not be staying at this hotel again because of this policy of payment up front of a $200 security deposit . But to be clear , I do not object as is the practise in all other motels / hotels , that my credit card details may be retained for security. I thought I would share my feelings here with management and review readers so they can understand the impact such business practices have in the market . It helps accommodation seekers judge if staying with you will suit them. An advisory disclosure of this practice was not mentioned on booking the room either . Thank you for reading .
