Small Luxury Hotel Altstadt Vienna

Our stay at this hotel was thoroughly enjoyable and staying at the Alstadt would encourage us to go back to Vienna. The staff were professional, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We got the impression that all of the employees really enjoyed working at the Alstadt. Upon checkout, the option of providing a tip on top of the hotel bill was unexpected although we didn’t mind leaving a % for the wonderful staff.

Hotel Altstadt Vienna has a lot of potential, but unfortunately, our stay was marred by several issues that impacted our experience. Let’s start with the positives: the rooms are very spacious and well-appointed, offering a comfortable setting with an interesting contemporary decor. However, while the room itself was lovely, the bed was far too soft for our liking. If you prefer a firmer mattress, you might find it a bit uncomfortable. The hotel is located in an apartment building, which gives it a unique charm, though it’s not exactly what you might expect from a traditional hotel setting. The location is good—while it’s outside of the main touristy areas, it’s still within walking distance of most attractions. So, for those who enjoy exploring a bit on foot, it’s well-placed. Unfortunately, there were some issues that made our stay less enjoyable. The room was not properly heated, and one night the heating completely broke down, leaving us cold in the middle of winter. To make matters worse, the hot water also stopped working the following morning. We never received a proper apology from the staff, and we had to demand a discount, which was never offered proactively. On a more positive note, the breakfast was very nice and served at a convenient time (until late in the morning, which was a bonus). The food was fresh, and there was a good selection. However, the breakfast room was a bit crowded, and the service was rather impersonal—there was no real warmth or attention from the staff who seemed overwhelmed. Overall, while the hotel has some lovely features, the service and maintenance issues left a bad taste in our mouths. For the price, we expected a lot more in terms of both comfort and service. We won’t be rushing back, especially given the lack of accountability when things went wrong during our stay.

Another great spot!

Very well located in the heart of Vienna 15mn to 20mn walking distance from museumsquartier, Stadt opera, city center, etc. with fancy spacious rooms (nr 12) and suites (nr 15) with nice tea time and breakfast. No fitness room no spa. Milena at reception is particularly nice and efficient.

The Altstadt is above and beyond magical. What a wonderful experience, where you feel like part of the family, surrounded by art, great food, love and joy! The neighborhood is an easy walk to the old center of Vienna, but just far enough away from the bustle to feel like a local.

A wonderful hotel, excellent in every respect. It was obvious a lot of attention had been paid to many small details in the comfortable guest rooms, breakfast buffet and bar. The staff were uniformly engaging and helpful. The hotel itself had a quirky and interesting display of artworks in each room and in all the public areas.
