Das Brown Bread Bakery Guest House hat viel zu bieten und wir können es wärmstens empfehlen! Wir hatten nicht vorgebucht und haben ein preiswertes Doppelzimmer ohne AC mit kleinem Bad bezogen. Corona hat auch hier seine Spuren hinterlassen, es war sehr wenig los und viele der Angebote auf der Speisekarte und z.B. auch die gratis Live Musik auf der Dachterasse des Hostels waren nicht verfügbar. Zum Restaurant und der Bäckerei: Dennoch die Auswahl des Restaurants ist immer noch sehr groß und außergewöhnlich lecker! Gerade auch Westliche Spießen sind hier wirklich gut und sehr frisch zubereitet. Unserer Erfahrung nach war die Küche hier in Sachen Frische und Hygiene deutlich überdurchschnittlich für eine (Budget;) Indienreise. Zudem kann *** mit seinem Besuch hier etwas Gutes tuen, viele der Produkte sind regional und biologisch von Frauen die bedürftige Kinder unterrichten hergestellt. Die Profite gehen an jene Schule (genaueres steht in den Speißekarten und sicherlich auch auf der Website beschrieben.) Einige der Produkte kann *** auch zum mitnehmen kaufen, naturbelassene Peanut Butter (die sehr sehr lecker war :), Honig aus dem Himalaya oder auch Backwaren (die Brötchen z.B. waren auch für uns (deutsche) Brotliebhaber sehr genießbar ;) Zu den Zimmern: relativ klein und einfach, auf Nachfrage bekamen wir zwei Handtücher und Klopapier. In der Dusche ging zunächst das kalte Wasser nicht, worauf hin wir in einem anderen leerstehenden Zimmer jederzeit das Bad nützen konnten. Und hat es gut gereicht, das Preis-Leistungsverhältniss war angemessen und das Zimmer war ruhig. Das Personal war sehr nett und hilfsbereit! Zur Lage: Nachts ist der Eingang zum Hotel verschlossen, wir fühlten uns generell sehr sicher und empfanden das Hostel und Restaurant als ruhigeren Rückzugsort von den belebten Gassen und dem Treiben an den nahegelegenen Ghats als sehr angenehm. Zusammenfassend könnten wir das Hostel mit seiner guten Lage, dem hilfsbereiten Personal und vor allem dem außergewöhnlich leckerem Restaurant - in dem *** sowohl indische und westliche Gerichte aus ökologischem, sozialem Anbau frisch zubereitet bekommt - wärmstens empfehlen!

I was in Varanasi for couple of days with my sibling.. The place felt like home.. It's a placed in the middle of all the pilgrimage sites. Kashi Vishwanath temple is just 3-4km distant from there and so. You might find a little difficulty in finding the place as it's in the middle of the bengali tola locality. Reaching there would be easy from varanasi Jn. Just ask there auto rikshaw driver to drop you at bengali tola intermediate high school. Then use google map and it's just 200-400 metre walking distance away from.

The stay has been out of expectations ! It's a German guest house with inhouse bakery serving delicious food. The rooftop cafe is cherry on cake ❤️ Nothing In cons, Checked In before my booking date at an additional minimal charge which is acceptable. Staff is very helpfull.

The Brown Bread Bakery in Varanasi was a great experience. The food was excellent, especially the whole grain bread, and the rooftop restaurant offered a wonderful atmosphere with beautiful views. The service was very friendly and helpful with all our questions. We also stayed there for two four nights, and the accommodation was comfortable and well-kept. Highly recommended for both dining and staying! Big thanks to Chandu for a wonderful boat trip.

My son and I went backpacking in India for five weeks during July and August 2024. We stayed at the Bown Bread Bakery for a few days and loved it. The staff and all very friendly but also professional and take their duty to look after you very seriously. The guesthouse is a social enterprise which uses its profits to support local schools for disadvantaged children, and some of the staff also come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The rooms are comfortable and very centrally located near all the ghats and other sights. But best of all is the amazing Brown Bread Café on the ground floor which sells delicious home-made food including lots of European dishes. The restaurant lives up to its name and sell very good quality brown bread, sandwiches and cakes. We ate local Indian food for most of our trip, but we couldn’t resist the European treats on offer at Brown Bread Bakery! Thank you.
