It had been a very long time since my wife and I vacationed with no work, kids, or other obligations. All we wanted to do was unwind in a warm and special place. At some point I stumbled upon The Emaho Sekawa retreat on Vanua Levu, the more rural of the two main islands of Fiji. The reviews, photos, and descriptions looked almost too good to be true, but I decided what the heck. I had been to Fiji a couple of times for work and enjoyed the nature and culture, but it would be new for my wife. We booked the Totoka Villa for 12 nights and the Emaho delivered everything we wanted and more. Honestly, we only left the Villa for an occasional activity, otherwise simply lounged on the spacious veranda, dipped in the private pool, and enjoyed all of our meals served in our beautiful and very private setting. Every meal was delicious, most often a tasty Fijiian take on western comfort food using the freshest ingredients. We read books, slept (super comfy mattress), conversed, and went on a few walks. When wi-fi was needed, there was never an issue (even fast enough for a video game I play from time to time). There is a tv in the room, but we never even turned it on. The mountaintop/jungle setting was amazing. The sunsets from our deck over the tropical expanse were incredible. We had some concerns about traveling in the "rainy" and warm season, but the weather mostly cooperated and we found the occasional downpour delightful as well. The villa had a workhorse air conditioner so we could retreat from the heat anytime if we wanted to, though it was just fine on the shaded deck. The staff delivered consummate soft-spoken Fijiian hospitality and is right there when you need them and a world away when you don't. At the top of our list, we enjoyed rejuvenating couples massages every other day. Staying mostly in our private heaven, we only did some of the available activities, but the waterfall, trail, and dip in the pool below should not be missed. Same for the geothermal mud bath. The staff provided services as needed including housekeeping, laundry (including ironing), island driving (one example, they took us in town to watch the Super Bowl at a new resort where other fans were gathered), and never ending supplies of chips, cookies, soda, and water. If we were drinkers, that would have been available also. In short (after a long review), we loved our private extended stay here and expect you will too. Joe & Tammy K Tacoma, WA, USA
