Van Zylsrus Hotel

The rooms are fine but the honeymoon suite were right next to the telkom tower and the fans were very noisy, don’t book the honeymoon suite if you want to have a good night sleep after a long ride and to rest for the next day ride, the owner should be made aware of this because I won’t sleep there again

Vanzylsrus is the ideal place to overnight if you are travelling from Gauteng to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. It looks like a one-horse town with the horse having departed a long time ago but appearances can be deceptive. The hotel is odd and quirky with interesting artwork everywhere you look. The food is excellent and I've never had a better lamb shank anywhere. This was the third time I've stayed at the hotel and is a must when travelling to the park. Luddy and the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home and there's a great bar. Do yourself a favour, soak up the Kalahari and overnight there!

We booked because we had a luncheon in Tswalu Game Reserve but this hotel was THE highlight. Quirky, fun, friendly, The bar is a central point for all the locals and tourists alike. It buzzes! The restaurant is outstanding with local, country fare. The rooms big and comfortable. The owners are always present and you feel they are on top of things.A real destination! They even have a fun curio shop!
