Travelodge Stansted Great Dunmow

It's a Travelodge. End of conversation. I'm writing a review as I wanted to name check a member of staff. We've stayed twice in the last month, both times arriving very late (after midnight). Both times we have been met by the night porter/the person running the desk overnight. He is a middle aged chap, name begins with 'M'. He is professional and solicitous, and handles tired and demanding guests with great skill. He's a keeper. :) What else? A heat wave was in progress - no A/C in the rooms. :(

We had an excellent stay. The staff were really helpful and friendly. The room was very clean and the food was great. Can't fault it.

I have stayed at many Travelodges, but this one cannot be recommended. The restaurant/bar is a pleasant enough environment although unfortunately the food we chose was very poor quality indeed and, given the prices, was also poor value. Noisy thoughtless guests spilling out of the bar late in the evening woke us from our sleep, which was really a pain as we had a very early flight and so felt completely unrested after our stay at this subpar facility.

We stayed here after a late arrival at Stansted and it was the cheapest option. Its a a bit of a trek to and from the airport. As we were tired after our late flight we opted for an Uber which cost £28 (it was after midnight and the hotel is a 7 mile dive away) To return to the airport the next day we took the X10 Airlink bus which stops close to outside the hotel itself, (just outside the petrol station). It cost £3 each and took about half an hour. The hotel is an older one but it’s in quite good shape. The staff we encountered were all great. Friendly and helpful. The bedroom, we had 232 on the top floor, was nicely decorated, well organized and the bed itself was very comfortable. We sleep very well. Be aware that there are no USB charging sockets in the room. We used the one on the back of the TV to charge a phone. We opted for breakfast, and that was great. It’s an all you can eat buffet including cereals, breads, pastries, pancakes plus Bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages, mushrooms and hash browns. Even the coffee was delicious. Our only niggle was that the bathroom could have done with a deep clean. It wasn’t filthy by any standards, but the bath taps and grab rails were dirty and had finger marks all over them and there were dirty marks on the tilled walls. All in all though a very comfortable stay. Just not quite as convenient as we had thought. We would definitely stay again if we needed a local stopover.

The staff are very friendly. The food was nice. The hotel was clean. The rooms were a good size & the bed was very comfy. Good tea & coffee making facilities. The only downfall was the following, which is down to the room amenities: No bedside plugs. And only one double socket in the entire room. No bedside tables No toilet brush Soap dispenser over the sink hadn’t been filled up Other than that, I would recommend this Travelodge. This was our second time staying here.

Food and drinks were lovely. Food was hot and quick to be served. Staff very friendly. Told us all we ask to know when we arrived. Laura and medina was so helpful. Overall very pleasant stay. Idea for early Morning start. Will definitely do this stay again.
