River Place Manor

The Location, Service, Food, Staff, and price excellent. The lodge is situated on the bank of the Orange River. Accessibility is great. Upington is n great place for a stop over from Namibia to or from South Africa. Absolutely no complaints. Worthwhile to visit the River Manor.

Most Beautiful hideaway at the River. After our Trip through the kalahari We enjoyed the warm hospitality of the very friendly staff. Exzellent steaks for Dinner and a large breakfast menue. Thanks a lot and the next time we will stay a bit longer

River Place Manor is in a wonderful position on the Orange river. Our room was spacious and comfortable: a luxuriant pleasure after a week in the Kgalaghadi Transfrontier Park. With friendly staff and good rates, it is a lovely place to stay. There is a restaurant with a simple menu that needs pre-booking, which was more than adequate for one or two nights. The breakfast was excellent and swiftly served in time for the 8.30am flight to Cape Town.

Overall a very pleasant place to stay, with an overall professional feel. I would definitely stay there again. Room: ---------- Stayed in the slightly cheaper "Deluxe" room. (Room 5.) Room had ground floor access - with an elevated Balcony. Fantastic View of river, gardens and pool. About 25m from riverbank. Table and 2 chairs on the balcony for sitting out. Despite being nearly full (or full?) the was a pervading sense of peace/tranquillity/quietness as I sat out that evening to enjoy the sunset. Small Fridge implemented Honesty Bar with selection of drinks. I did not use but prices were reasonable. Complimentary sherry and 2x bottled waters were provided. The TV was small by modern standards, but everything worked fine. Appeared to be the full DSTV package, so decent choice. Room lighting was very good and included reading lamps (important to me). Air conditioner was effective in 38deg C heat. There were blackout curtains on doors leading to balcony, which I guess can also help keep out the heat. Minor Room Issues: - Room compact but I guess OK for 2 (I was solo). - Limited "self catering": There was a kettle, small fridge and microwave, all in the cupboard! The cutlery/crockery was limited to: Cups and teaspoons, 2x wine glasses and 2x glasses (in bathroom). Also a tin opener and corkscrew. But, no plates, bowls, knives forks, spoons etc. so limited possibilities even for heat and eat. (Perhaps these things are available on request? I simply heated a ready-meal and had it from it's container using a spoon I had with me.). Increasingly desirable is good access to device charging facilities - here they were workable but could be better. There were no foreign adapters. The power points were awkward to access, low down and behind furniture. (Desktop access would be great!) Also, while there were 2x bedside USB sockets, one was unusable due to damage and the other was low power (the dreaded "slow charge"). Service and Facilities ----------------------------------- Early check-in was no problem (before 1pm believe). All staff I interacted with were friendly, helpful and very professional. Reception, Restaurant and accommodation all in one complex. Restaurant serves evening meal and breakfast. I didn't have an evening meal but enjoyed the breakfast and once again, the professional service. Access to the property ------------------------------------ Intercom controlled access gate and then about 500m scenic drive through the "farm" to reach the reception and accommodation. The access road is single lane with passing places, but possible you may need to reverse! Gate opens automatically for exit. A remote is provided with the room key for re-entry. Parking: ------------- Parking area adjacent to complex, but not allocated or room adjacent, so may be a consideration if you have mobility issues and/or heavy luggage. (Some rooms involve climbing stairs to access. I'm sure help would be available if needed.) Parking was almost full

The location on the banks of the Orange River is idyllic - close to all city amenities while feeling like a haven of cool, luxurious accommodation on a tropical island. Ronel’s staff are world class and the grounds are beautifully maintained. I cannot recommend River Place highly enough. Thank you Morne for all your assistance. 24 hour security with plug in for car fridge if you’re en route to Kgalagadi. Will be back soon.

We are staying over in Upington regularly, on our way to Kgalagadi. We have tried quite a few places, but this is the one! Rooms outstanding! Service very professional and friendly! Restaurant excellent! It is on the Orange river, so the location is also ideal! Very, Very enjoyable!
