Grand Hotel de France

I stayed at the Grand Hotel de France for one week in January 2022 while I was visiting Tunis on vacation and had a great experience. The rooms are simple, spacious, and clean. The front desk was very helpful (speak Arabic and French, as far as I can tell) and helped me understand the louage system for getting around Tunisia. The hotel is very affordable (I think I paid $18 per night for a double in Jan 2022) and you cannot stay in a more perfect location. It's on a quiet street but just a block away from the main square outside of the medina. I'm so happy we stayed here, rather than inside the medina, because taxis and Bolts could easily drive us there without needing to navigate the medina streets, but we could be at the entrance to the old quarter in minutes. Only downside is that the wifi was spotty, but this is to be expected in Tunisia :)
