Excellent staff.. had a evening meal food was very tasty ... room was very nicely decorated with a comfy bed .. had a cooked breakfast then got talking to the owners before we left ... couldn't do enough for us

The welcome this evening was warm and friendly. The atmosphere was homely. The food was superb! The fish was perfectly cooked. The apple and gooseberry tart was just gorgeous! Compliments to the chef!!! Sue M- J. Retired Hospitality and Catering teacher.

I was away on a solo break so needed somewhere to eat and relax in the evening. I was made to feel at home straightaway. Every member of the team I met was helpful, friendly and professional at all times. This pub is well run. The food is exceptionally good as was the beer. I have spent time in many pubs over the years. From experience I know this one stands out as special. Good pubs are hard to find now. Thoroughly recommend you visit this one. No apology at all for the gushing review. I loved it.

Had a three night break at Lakes, staying at Troutbeck Inn, and travelling around area from there. All staff most friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble for Nicki and co. Food very good as was service. Lovely atmosphere, would highly recommend, if you are in area. Thank you to all, we had great time in Lakes.

On arrival in the pouring rain 3.45pm door to inn was locked, knocked on the door and lady shouted we are closed, come back at 4pm, 15mins? I said we are staying she said we are not ready. Ok! But no apologies just a bit rude, so we went for a coffee Came back after meeting up with my young family, my son and fiancé and 2 boys 3&5, my daughter 7 months pregnant husband and toddler 2 We requested a table for dinner and after some discussion were shown to the family side of the inn, very nice. We checked into our room while the family settled in to order for kids so not too late(5.30) Ordered drinks and a full family meal for 6 adults 3 kids which was lovely kids well behaved, at 6.30 popped upstairs with the toddler and boys to put PJs on. they were staying at the camp site 5 mins away that’s why we booked the Trout beck Inn, to be close to them just down the rd We had just finished dinner and the weather had changed to strong winds, so bad there was a weather warning announcement, we asked could we book 2 more rooms and were told no! although they were available they couldn’t access the booking system? So we suggested we booked tonight and paid tomorrow as weather so bad to go back to camp site with the kids Still no compromise a NO I total understand policy and procedures but this was handled all wrong even a phone call could have been made to possibly get permission surely it’s about sales! And filling rooms So we suggested my daughter pregnant and the toddler stay in our room and we would stay at camp! For their safety Again we were told NO toddler not insured? Ok understand but to say no to my day couldn’t stay 7 months pregnant, ridiculous and unacceptable ……morning - We were told on arrival please fill in Your breakfast form the night before and with all the fuss with room request and bad weather getting everyone out safely we forgot , so in the morning - breakfast served 8-9am on website, We asked at 8.30 if we could have some breakfast and lady said NO you didn’t fill in your form ! Honestly ridiculous attitude, we were told - We cook to order and buy in per order the night before ? Really So I’m not sure how that works for an Inn who can provide full evening menus unannounced but breakfast is a no go! How can a property who is providing accommodation and food as a service not have eggs, bacon, sausage,mushrooms or even cereals etc on site. 🤔 She did eventually offer toast but not with a smile Just unbelievable service and attitude, I can say one man from the bar helped by getting ice for us when the lady said she didn’t have any left so thank you to that gentleman. Seems so short sighted that the Inn itself is lovely rooms are good, but the rest is all desperately disappointing and unacceptable front of house service was uncaring and just not guest friendly really let the Inn down. Orinally booked little Mel but was asked by the owner if we would change to saddle back so that the people that were there before us could extend their stay and stop there,in hind site looking back I would rather have stayed at little Mel which in my opinion was much cosier, Saddleback was nice but a lot larger and when we arrived someone had taken the parking space provided for the accomodation also the heating had not been on and the place smelled of damp and I had to get the owner to switch it on which she did right away and after that it was much better.All in all had a lovely stay and a few beers at the pub opposite which was nice the drive to Keswick or Penrith was not to far either way and well worth a visit if we did go again I would go to little Mel .

Spotted this by accident. Didn't stay only went for Sunday lunch as expected everywhere else was booked. The Sunday roast was amazing. All fresh and homemade. The roast beef and plenty of it. Hidden little gem and we will definitely be back .

Wonderful location in easy reach of places of interest. Friendly owners and staff willing to help were possible and always cheerful. Excellent food, freshly cooked to order, so always arrived at the table hot. Rooms decorate to a high standard. Would not hesitate to recommend a stay here. Sue Rodgers

I stayed for one night in May, breaking my journey further North. It`s one of those pubs, where they`ve really managed to combine the age and character of the pub, with a bright and modern interior, that really works. The pub was full when I arrived and despite the staff being rushed off their feet, I received a warm welcome. I stayed in room one, which is the single room at the front of the pub with views over the adjacent fells and fields. The room was beautifully decorated, with a bathroom that looked new and was wonderfully finished in rustic pine. My only complaint about the room, was that the bed was just so soft, it was really difficult to get comfortable and I didn`t really sleep well as a result. However, everything else was pretty much perfect. I had a lovely veggie curry, washed down with a perfectly kept pint of Thwaites, all served by two lovely ladies, who didn`t stop all the time I was eating. It was mad busy whilst I was there and certainly at the weekends, I`d advise booking or you just won`t get a table. I`d 100% stay again, but if the owner reads this, please change the mattress in room one, it`s just too soft and is a back breaker !!
