Sonder Artesa Apartments West Queen West

Four-night stay at the Sonder coming over from the UK in a one-bedroomed apartment on Floor 6. Smart decor, comfy bed and very useful having a kitchen with all appliances necessary to cook in if you need to. Sonder app easy to use to get in/check in and Citymapper is a great app to get around with. Loved the storage draws in reception allowing you to help yourself to dishwasher tablets, sugar, tea, coffee and towels etc whenever you needed. Plenty of washing-up liquid, hand wash and shower gels, shampoo etc too. In-apartment washer and dryer useful too. Netflix on the TV, decent clothes storage space and incredible view of downtown skyline (see pic) from a lovely sun-trap balcony with sun loungers. Situated on Dufferin in a nice, safe part of town. Metro and Fresh Co supermarket 5 mins walk away. Queen Street five-min walk away too with bars (try Bar Poet for cocktails, beers and good vibes) and coffee shops in abundance. Nearest subway stop is 20 mins walk away but it's a lovely area to stroll around and taxis/Ubers/Lyft to downtown are between $CAN 10-20 depending on time of day. If you are heading for a concert at the Rogers Stadium (NOT the Rogers Centre in downtown) north of the city - we saw Oasis in Aug 25, catch the 29 bus right outside the Sonder building and get off at the end of the route at Wilson Station for just a few dollars. Would 100% go back.

The 1-bedroom was clean, nicely furnished, smaller than it looks online but enough room to move around in. Basically soundproof. Comfortable, bedding is nice, mattress firm, towels are a bit scratchy, but that’s just nitpicking. Fantastic location. Everything is walkable and mass transit is easily available if you need it, but if you have a car, the clearance in the parking garage is VERY low. If you have a roof rack or a large vehicle, forget it. My Honda CRV barely made it in. I was in room 803, which had a partial city view from the balcony, but mostly of the apartment building next door. If the view is important to you, make sure to reserve a ‘balcony with city view,’ otherwise you’ll end up looking at train tracks and a garbage dump. Overall, the lodging part of the stay was satisfactory. That being said, if you’re looking for a traditional hotel experience, this ain’t it. If you have any issues, you can’t contact the property directly. Instead, calls are directed to a giant central customer service center staffed by foreign-speaking agents who are polite but agonizingly slow. The weekend I stayed the Sonder app and website weren’t working properly, apparently due to their migration to Marriott, so to add parking to my stay, what should have taken less than a minute ended up taking hours. No exaggeration – I’m deducting a star for having to listen to that abhorrent Muzak on a loop over and over while sitting on hold forever. I’m deducting another star for the clunky check-in process, which could have been much, much easier. Proper signage is absent. After entering my code multiple times to get to the lobby, I was terrified that I’d end up on hold for eternity with Sonder again just to access the building, when it finally worked on the 5th try. This isn’t user error; a lot of reviewers mention this is a problem. It’s great that everything is secure, but having to enter codes over and over is a bit wearying.

Best part of the stay was the size of the room and the fact it has everything. Room was good quality and the staff were always super friendly and helpful. I'd change the cleanliness of the room. The floor was a bit dirty and needed a vacuum and mop.

I couldn’t rate this place highly enough it was amazing. Couldn’t beleive how nice the apparentmerts were. We stayed in a 1 bed appartment with balcony and it did not disappoint. The bed is the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept it and there is everything you need they even left us washing tablets for the washing machine. The staff are also 5 star always so friendly. I will really miss staying here but hopefully return in the future !

Bed ******, but the property was super clean, spacious and had a great view. Also shopping/groceries very close. Would stay here again.

Beautiful unit to stay at. Doors of the washroom weren't in the most function state, but overall space was well maintained. Would've been better if the shower was enclosed completely.
