I am staying at Gokulam Grand for several nights, and while the property itself is beautiful and the rooms are spacious and well-maintained, the service left much to be desired. On the very first night of my stay, I experienced an allergic reaction and called reception to ask if they could provide an antihistamine. The receptionist’s response was rude and distant. I explained that it was a bad allergy, but he seemed completely unconcerned. I quickly checked for nearby pharmacies and went down to speak to him in person, pointing out that the hotel should have some kind of alternative or emergency assistance available. Only when I insisted on speaking to the manager did they finally offer to take me to a hospital. By then I was already on my way to a pharmacy, which thankfully was just a couple of minutes away. The manager did apologize for the receptionist’s behavior, but it left me wondering what if it had been a more serious medical emergency? Would they have reacted so carelessly? The housekeeping staff were kind and did a good job keeping the room clean, but even after four days into my stay, no one replenished the shower gel in my room. At the restaurant, Isabel stood out for her warm and friendly service she always served with a smile and made dining pleasant. Unfortunately, some of the other restaurant staff were less professional; one even rolled their eyes and sighed when I asked for something. On my first day, it took 45 minutes just to receive my drink. Another area for improvement is communication at the front desk. Certain things, such as the spa policy, should be explained clearly at check-in. The spa is run by a third party and payment is required immediately after the service. After a wonderful facial massage, I felt embarrassed because the therapist asked me to wait in the spa until she fetched the card machine it felt as though she thought I might leave without paying. What really made me extend my stay for an additional four nights was the room itself it’s beautiful, comfortable, and the facilities are good. With some training for the staff particularly at the front desk and restaurant and better communication, this hotel has the potential to offer a truly exceptional experience.
