Cliveden House - an Iconic Luxury Hotel

Loved it. They treat you like Royalty

Cliveden House Dining Room is our favourite restaurant. We chose it to celebrate our 52nd anniversary and were not disappointed. The four main requirements of excellent food, service, ambience and surroundings are all met. This is a very special place and is highly recommended for that special occasion.

Had a wonderful one night stay. The room was fantastic, quiet and luxurious. The grounds are amazing to walk around. I especially liked the Long Garden and Water Garden. Had a lovely dinner at The Astor Grill, and a refreshing morning swim in both the indoor and outdoor pools. Very friendly and efficient service, from everyone I encountered. Big thanks to Gaius, Nadine and all the hotel team, as well as the Astor Grill team. Very easy to get to from London, with the Elizabeth Line and a 10 minute Uber from Taplow station.

We have just stayed at Cliveden House for one night for the May bank holiday, we're a family of 4 with 2 young children (5 and 2). The stay was fine and we had a good time, in spite of the fact that this hotel is not meant for young families. Starting from the fact that all the rooms we went in were very quiet, and we got a few looks when our children made any noise. We also got no warmth or friendly comments from staff, which is something that we usually get when we go to places with attentive staff. In spite of the fact that they have sessions at the pool where children can go, the lowest depth of the indoor pool is 1.6m, way too deep for small children. The water was also quite cold, there was another family with a very small baby that could not enjoy the pool for that reason. Now let's talk about the service! We have nothing bad to say about the room, the meals we had at the grill or the bar, the breakfast, the fantastic housekeeping or the absolutely stunning location. However, when you go to a 5-star hotel, you sort of expect to have a better service than you would get in non 5-star hotels. We thought the service definitely did not meet expectations. The staff was professional but we had a lot of instances where we thought they lacked warmth and friendliness to the point that they even seemed snobbish. Lots of examples, nothing huge, but just a pattern we noticed, such as: not saying good morning when passing by a member of staff near the reception in the morning (no one else around), or reprimand me because I had been waiting at the wrong reception desk without knowing (the saw me, they could have told me and saved me the time, but somehow I was the one in the wrong), or how the member of staff at the pool seemed annoyed when we approached him to ask questions. We also had 100 pounds credit which they failed to mention at any point, and just found out when I re-read the reservation confirmation email on my last day and asked about it. We apparently had other perks in the booking that we did not get, but it was too late by then. The only time we felt the staff was friendly towards us was breakfast. We probably would still come back as the setting is stunning, it's just that next time we will be better prepared!

I went with 2 of my daughters on a midweek Spa Day package. We chose the Oskia Deep Facial and I paid extra to add on a warm oil body massage. The whole day was excellent - beautiful surroundings and fabulous facilities. The Spa Kitchen food was very good, and Narish, Orain and Mark were very friendly and really looked after us. The staff had arranged our day so that we all had the same treatment simultaneously and the same person for both treatments. Amber, Sonia and Sophie gave us a great experience and we all especially loved the facial massage. They also gave personalised product recommendations and we did decide to treat ourselves in the shop afterwards! I would highly recommend Cliveden Spa for a special day away from it all and would definitely go again!

We have visited Cliveden previously and were again not let down. On arrival we were met in the carpark by one of the Concierge staff. He was extremely kind as one of our party was going to be delayed by traffic. He assured us he would be there to meet them and escort them into the Hotel and to our table. He did not let us down! All the staff were aware of our arrival and names. We had relaxing drinks in the bar and informed as to when our table was ready. The restaurant staff again were very polite and professional. The food was served very promptly and beautifully prepared. A truly relaxing experience. The Hotel has a wonderful elegant charm and if only the walls could talk. What secrets do they hold. We will return and wander around the grounds and take a leisurely cruise on the river boat! Thank you for such a lovely day!
