I had an absolutely wonderful experience at the hotel during their Festive Week celebrations. From wine and cheese evening on Monday, live music on Christmas Eve, a fabulous Christmas day lunch to Boxing Day brunch, I thoroughly enjoyed my solo stay-cation. The location: Nothing can beat having my breakfast with a view of the lake. I can only imagine how wonderful it would be during the summer months. The food: Every single meal I had was cooked to perfection. Breakfast - Eggs Royale, Scrambled Eggs with Salmon Dinner - Cullen Skink Risotto and Scallops, Haggis, neeps and tatties with whiskey sauce Brunch - Grilled halloumi, avocado and poached egg on a sourdough toast. The poached eggs with a jammy centre really scored extra points since I am personally not a fan of a runny centre. The cullen skink risotto was a first for me and I would go back for seconds if i could. The Haggis with the whiskey sauce was my favourite and I did go back for seconds. No pictures since I was too busy enjoying it. And finally the Christmas lunch: ham hock terrine for starters, a full roast for the mains and sticky toffee pudding for the dessert. Chefs Joe and Paul truly outdid themselves with this one. I am still dreaming about the gravy. The service: Now this is my second visit to this hotel and I was delighted to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones. I must start with Millie at the reception, who was patient with all my concerns and queries prior to my stay and after I was shown to my room. Other special shootouts: Nicola for breakfast service, Erin, Chantelle, Catherine and Bryony at the bar. Noteworthy mention: Aindi for holding down the fort on his own on Christmas evening and supplying us with wonderful cocktails. Even ones that weren't on the menu. And last but never the least, Chris and Blue from guest relations, thanks for making sure this solo traveller never felt lonely. The entire restaurant and bar staff did an incredible job making sure that the service was running smoothly even during the busiest hours.
