experience amazing Maine waterfront living at its best in this incredible house with stunning ocean views near the Village of Cundy’s Harbor in Harpswell. Kayak, canoe, and swim from your own protected deep-water dock with mooring. The spacious circa 1904 home has been lovingly restored (2023) with updated baths, electric, plumbing, and air conditioning. Yet the old-fashioned ice chest (originally supplied with ice from the island’s fresh water pond), beautiful Italian marble fireplace, large kitchen farm sink, and early 1900’s clawfoot tub are all retained. The original Douglas Fir floors have also been beautifully restored. The Dingley Island Loons Nest sleeps 8 people comfortably, boasting 3 bedrooms plus a double sleep sofa in the first-floor den with ensuite full bathroom and accessible shower. The "cottage" has 2 additional full baths upstairs, a dining room that seats 8, a first-floor sunporch, a huge well-equipped and well-stocked eat-in kitchen, and a large primary bedroom suite with its own fabulous sunroom with breathtaking 180- degree ocean views. Located on an island with bridge access and surrounded by water on 2 sides, this spectacular house exudes old Maine charm and is the perfect home base to explore Maine’s Mid-Coast region. It is only 20 minutes to the restaurants and shops of Brunswick and Bath and to Bowdoin College, 30 minutes to Freeport and Wiscasset, and 45 minutes to Portland as well as to Boothbay Harbor and the Maine Botanical Garden.Enjoy the quiet neighborhood and island living, perfect for relaxing and watching the tides and local wildlife — including bald eagles, great blue herons, foxes, and mink — who call the island home. You’ll love to call the Dingley Island Loons Nest your home during your stay in the beautiful State of Maine.Additional notes: The house is not child proof, and the fireplace is not operational. The host/owner lives on the adjacent property (so is readily available for assistance if needed), but your privacy is completely respected at all times. This rental comes with use of the kayaks, canoe, dock/float, and mooring at your own risk. 3 beds and 2 baths home with modern gourmet kitchen on 4 private waterfront acres. This quintessential Maine home is named in memory of Tides, our beloved yellow Labrador Retriever of 13 years, and the ocean tides which will quickly become your best friend and companion when staying at our beautiful Maine retreat. An environmentally friendly home—powered by solar and an automatic standby generator—nestled on 4 waterfront acres with a private road. Our home has a direct path to our private rock beach and water's edge deck offering direct access to the water and Casco Bay. This large family house features 3 large bedrooms and 2 full baths, including the master bedroom and a master bath en suite on the main living level. This very private residence offers a unique setting to "get away from it all” and unwind. Yet it is also within a 12 minute drive to Brunswick, only 45 minutes to Portland Airport. and roughly 2 1/2 hour drive to Boston.A perfect few days for us might be spent kayaking right in front of our residence, watching the sunrise over the water, possibly catching a glimpse of an eagle, watching the lobster boats go by while having breakfast, walking down our private road and taking in the beautiful scenery. We will often simply enjoy watching the ocean tides (we have an 11 foot tide) and also walking on the muddy tidal flats which at low tide extend several hundred yards into the bay. A visit to Brunswick to the "Crystal Farms" farmers market for some of the local produce is a favorite Saturday morning adventure. We highly recommend bringing home some of the local seafood, dining on our enormous deck with a glass of wine, as the moon shines on the water, flooding the house with lunar light.Close by is the historic Town of Bath and a little further down the coastal highway is "Reds" where you can feast on world renown lobster rolls (be prepared to stand in line) . Being die hard "foodies" we love that we can be in Portland in about 45 minutes and dine at some of the finest restaurants that New England has to offer with excellent choices in farm to table dining. "The Street" and "Fore Street" are two favorites and a visit to Portland is not complete without a stop at "Standard Bakery" and "Becky's Diner". If you love sushi then a visit to "Miyake" is a gastronomical experience to be savored. We also recommend checking out some of Portland’s exciting night life with an excellent selection of ocean front bars and local breweries – it’s a good time and you can always take an UBER back to Harpswell. Don't want to drive to Portland then stay local and check out a nearby dining treasure (in season) at "Morse's Cribstone Grill". A good way to work off all that food would be a trip to nearby Bradbury State Park for a hike to the top of the mountain or, weather permitting, kayaks are available for rental and can be delivered directly to the house.A visit to "LL Bean", along with the other fine retail outlet shops, is almost a requirement in nearby Freeport. Take the scenic Pleasant Hill road back to Brunswick and perhaps stop off first at "Bow Street Market" . Brunswick is one of our favorite towns and has so much to offer from restaurants, pubs , art galleries, Bowdoin College and did I mention "Gelato Fiasco"?You will be wondering where the time went and will understand why they say: "There are only two types of people in the world , those who live in Harpswell and those that wish they did".Note- In the "about Stan" you will see information to a magnificent Quinta in Sintra, Portugal which we also manage (see last two pictures in our Tides Listing) . We offer luxurious accommodations for up to 20 people in two adjoining villas with a total of 10 rooms .https://www.vrbo.com/8944870ha (message me here as well)About pets:Pets allowed: dogs and cats less than 50 lbs per pet (limit 2 pets total).$50/pet/week after first week.About checkOut:Check out before 10:00 AM.About children:Children allowed: ages 0-17.About customRules:A Rental Agreement is required . THE RED HOUSEThe 116 year old Red House at the head of Mackerel Cove was built when most of Bailey Island was wild and undeveloped - and once you've spent time here it's clear why this spot was chosen to build. You FEEL the ocean just steps away wherever you are on the property - and each night the sun sets directly in front of you across the water. This place is magic. A house where no matter what you are doing - cooking dinner with loved ones - reading a book on the porch - spending a lazy day in bed - the sea is always present - steps away or right outside your window.***THE BEACHThe private pebble beach is the perfect place to launch kayaks at any tide. Exploring from the water is one of the best ways to experience Casco Bay. The tide pools in front of the house are something kids (of all ages) love.***THE VIEWSpending time here always comes back to the view. Clear and calm one day, misty and grey the next. Watch the sea and sky shift with the weather. Hour by hour. Minute by minute. Always beautiful. Always different.**THE BIRDSFrom heron and gulls to Eider and even bald eagles, this sheltered spot is a birdwatchers dream. I watched a pair of sea ducks guide their ducklings along the shore. Herons fishing in the tide pools at low tide. A bald eagle at the end of the wharf. Whatever you see, you can be sure that it's going to be beautiful.***NEW OWNERSHIPThe Red House is now owned by Little Harbor Properties and managed by Safe Harbour Property Management - Safe Harbour is the same management team that you had when The Gills Group owned The Red House so please expect the same great service. This also means THE GILLS GROUP still has a collection of oceanfront cottages that can be rented together with The Red House if available for larger groups or hosting intimate events. The cottages are all a short walk from each other and are the perfect place to be "away" while still being "together".THE GILLS GROUP cottages are Jaquish Lane (VRBO 733483) which sleeps 12 and The Gills (VRBO 318909) which sleeps 6.***EVENTSThe Red House with spectacular sunsets on the west can be booked with THE GILLS GROUP cottages, JAQUISH and THE GILLS offer the ability to host events such as weddings etc. and can be booked with THE RED HOUSE when available as an lodging accommodation for wedding guests etc. Event fees vary depending on the size of the gathering and number of guests at JAQUISH and THE GILLS.
