Our eclectic farm house is nestled in the driftless region of SW Wisconsin! From the relaxing front porch you can occasionally watch the Amish strolling on horse and buggy, catch a great sunset over the rolling hills, or stargaze at night. We are located directly on the cheese county ATV/Snowmobile route so motor sports enthusiast can access this amenity directly off the driveway. Located within 20-35 min of several quaint tourist towns to include Galena , New Glarus, Monroe, Mineral Point,The spaceGuest have full access to the house. NOTE:Please note that the front porch is a three season porch and may not hold a comfortable temperature during the cold winter months. Also note, that the three season porch baseboards should be kept on medium heat and not high, otherwise the breaker may pop. Another quirk with our old farmhouse are the main floor bathroom pipes. They have a tendency to freeze during extended periods of below freezing weather. This might make the main level bathroom unusable for winter stays. In order to prevent freezing ( if operational during winter stays ), please leave faucets in the main floor bathroom on a slow drip. We are located on a hidden bluff at the end of a dead end road in the driftless area of Southern Wisconsin near the popular tourist destination of New Glarus, America's Little Switzerland in Green County Wisconsin. The property is nestled in a stand of mature oak trees with rock cliffs, deer & turkeys grazing in the yard. It is a nature lovers dream!The 2600 square foot 3.5 bath log home sits on 40 acres. The home features four spacious bedrooms with plush beds, a large surround deck in the tree tops, high speed internet & access to private walking trails that wind through the woods complete with limestone cliffs and pollinator prairies. The interior of the home is lined with pine boards that give off a pleasant aroma and add to the character adding to the cabin feel but the home is well appointed and has all the features you will likely need. We are close to many communities like New Glarus, Dodgeville, Mineral Point, Mt Horeb where local festivals take place weekly throughout the spring, summer and fall. Take in a brewery tour or sample some fresh cheese at one of the many local cheese factories. Be sure to ask for fresh curds! There is easy access to Yellowstone Lake State Park and Wildlife Areas with a host of other possible recreational activities including hiking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, boating. The White Oak Retreat is a "shouse" type living space, constructed in 2023, located 4 miles south of Shullsburg, WI. The property is located on a preferred ATV route and within 100 yards of the snowmobile trail with ample room for trailer parking. Located 8 minutes from Shullsburg WI, 20 minutes from Darlington, WI, 25 minutes from Galena, IL, and 30 minutes from Dubuque, IA the living space is all your own. The home on the property is lived in by the hosts, however the Retreat is all yours. We do have three cats (Stewart, Sam and Sloan) that might come say hello from time to time. The space can sleep up to 10 people with two bedrooms (one king, one queen), a Queen futon, and a King-size floor mattress (Cordaroy Bean Bag) and single futon on the loft, and a couch on the main level. If you have a larger group looking for a place to stay we do have a spot for camper hook up on the property as well.
