Go here regularly for a few drinks with friends, there is a great pub atmosphere in the bar area and the outdoor areas are beautiful. Food and service very good. Highly recommend.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my husband in the "lovage" retreat. This was part of a detached house which could be split depending on the number of people staying. It had interconnecting doors which were obviously locked when we stayed. We had one large room with two sets of patio doors out onto a deck with beautiful views onto the open countryside. There was also a kitchen at the rear of room and separate large bathroom with shower. It was really nicely furnished with good quality furniture and a giant bed with lovely floor to ceiling headboard. It was also spotlessly clean. Unfortunately because we were part of a larger house we could clearly hear the tv on in the adjoining rooms, people's conversations and hairdryer being used which wasn't great. The room also had underfloor heating which was controlled by staff. It was really cold and tiles on the floor cold so I had to go to the reception and ask for it to be turned up. You'd think in luxury accommodation where you've paid over £200 a night, you could be trusted to turn on your own heating. The bathroom was lovely but the shower sealant was covered in mould in the bottom corner and where the controls were. This is easily fixable and shouldn't be something you experience in luxury accommodation. Furniture outside was also strewn around as though it had been left that way from previous guests. There was also a flickering light in the bathroom which stayed on at all times, like a nightlight and staff couldn't fix it as there were no maintenace staff available. Because the bathroom door had clear glass into it, the flickering was noticeable in the bedroom when you were trying to sleep. All in all nothing spoiled our stay but we did feel the small touches that make somewhere a luxury stay, were lacking. Our meal at night and breakfast were lovely and good size portions were served. There were also plenty of car chargers available which we did use. Overall a beautiful location and very handy for Beamish Museum which was 8 minutes away. The metro centre was also only 20 mins from us and we used the Odeon Cinema there.

An exceptional experience from start to finish the beautiful landscape the very caring staff the quality of the food made for a wonderful stay. It is a very interesting part of the world to visit but when you can go back to such a deluxe facility, it makes it feel all that much better

We would certainly go back staff very friendly the room was roomy everything you need.Resturant good suroundings were beautiful quiet as well. Best holiday yet .

First to say we enjoyed our stay and it was excellent value. It is an interesting and pretty site with quaint rooms and a good restaurant. But it was not perfect, our room whilst superficially clean could have done with a mould spray in the bathroom, and the plumbing was except noisy , not just from our own room but from those adjoining. So we would not recommend our room (Thyme) but I expect others would be good.

Booked Luxury studio suite ! They fail to advertise that it has a single door to adjoining rooms Can here every thing going on in next room Doors opening / cupboards doors / taps People talking and arguing Mentioned on first Day to office Was told there was someone next door and rooms are connected but door locked. And they be leaving the following day Fail to mention someone else had it booked. They continued their argument from the car about missed junction and language was colour full . Getting woke up at 06:30 on a morning due to them having a shower and cupboard door banging reported again On the 3rd time of talking to the person in the office they said someone would contact me… currently still waiting We checked out on Friday and the same lady as if everything been ok with stay I said apart from the earlier morning wake up call. Noise doors banging and can hear there taps and showers running. No problem also advised our bathroom door didn’t close looked like hinges had dropped and the adjacent room access was next to bathroom door which had a clear glass panel it which could be embarrassing if someone walked passed if someone was in shower. The lady said she spoken to her manager and a bottle of wine was offered , or voucher off next stay but this was only offered when checking out. Advised would like a call from manager Still currently waiting Rang back and spoke to another lady on the Wednesday and was told she would call me back or manager would no call

The last time we visited the Black Horse it was 2022, it wasn't amazing but we thought we would give it another go. We were greeted and taken to our table and a lovely lad came to take our orders for drink and food. After looking at the menu online before going, I was extremely disappointed to find the menu was much smaller than online, the food I wanted wasn't there. i chose garlic king prawns to start with only to be told they didn't have them. The seafood cocktail I chose wasn't the best, a few tatty little prawns in a tasteless sauce, my husband did enjoy his brie bites, we then ordered steak, this was very poor indeed, extremely tough, struggled to cut with a steak knife and could barely chew it, I brought quite a bit back home for the dogs. The chips, salad and onion rings were nice. The service was very poor, had to catch someone's eye to order another drink. The dishes were cleared and we were offered dessert, it took over 30 minutes for them to bring it to the table and then they had the cheek to try and add a 10% service charge. The dessert had very little taste. On paying we refused to pay the service charge as the service was very poor. I really don't know how this place is still going. Definitely wouldn't bother coming back

I honestly cannot tell you what a hidden gem this place is. It blew our mind. We came to go to a nearby wedding so kind of booked it without really looking and OMG what a treat. Firstly everyone’s so nice, staff / locals cannot do enough for you which is such a rare thing these days. The rooms are outstanding, cleanest place I’ve stayed and the breakfast is probably the best breakfast I’ve ever had. We will deffo be back - such incredible value too. My biggest recommendation I’ve ever made
