The George Hotel of Stamford

We have just returned from another perfect stay at this wonderful hotel. We have travelled widely and The George is our favourite. We have had four different rooms of our choice over the years we have stayed here. This time we booked one of the superiors we really like and it was perfect again. It had everyone you would need for your stay and it was very clean, as was all of the hotel. We love the choice of food in the Oak Room and all our meals were delicious. The staff are extremely friendly, professional and helpful. We were sorry we had missed seeing Diane before her retirement. It was always a pleasure to have a chat with her at breakfast. We hope she enjoys her retirement and who knows we may see her around the town on our next visit. There is plenty of choice for breakfast and that sets you up for the day ahead. We also enjoy the sandwiches in the Bar. Always delicious. The room and hotel were nice and warm as the weather was bitterly cold outside. There is nothing we would change about this hotel. We will see you again in the very near future. Thank you to all the lovely staff.

This is the second time I have stayed at the George & the third time I have eaten there, the last two meals were fantastic & the room was great this time I really did feel disappointed the Four poster room was to me just a room with a four poster bed in it no wow factor I have stayed in one of the other four poster rooms & l found it great, the bathroom was really good couldn't complian about that in any way. We ate in the Oak room that night & felt quite let down the scallops were jelly like my girlfriend had the pork for her main & looked just like it was just slapped on the plate she said it tasted great but the presentation was awful, Floater coffees served in wine glasses could not taste the alcohol & got that deducted off the bill. I love to wear a jacket & tie to dinner & that's why I like the oak room but there was a table there with people wearing jeans & no jacket or tie it really took the shine off it for me . A shame but I won't be returning. Overall the staff were great couldn't fault them.

This was our third stay at the George. We had an excellent 2 nights stay with a delicious evening meals in the oak room and lovely breakfasts in the garden room. The staff were excellent helpful and friendly. We were brought tea, orange juice and a paper each morning at a time we requested. The bedroom was very large and comfortable. Plenty of car parking space and within easy walking distance of the lovely town of Stamford. We will certainly visit again.

I stayed here the first time in January 2025 and will definitely be back. The whole place is old and steeped in history but gorgeous and the rooms are really comfortable... particularly the beds and pillows. The only thing I found slightly strange is that they only offer sheets and blankets rather than duvets. They will even bring a tea tray to outside your door in the morning. Really well run, two great restaurants... I almost don't want to tell people about this place! The staff are lovely and the breakfast is very good.

From arriving to leaving, first class. The food was delicious. Staff were fantastic!! James looked after our group in the ‘London room’ and the attention to detail was perfect, he was the perfect gentleman looking after us all. We will definitely return for our next family outing

Rude awful attitude. We visited three restaurants during the 2024 Easter bank holiday weekend. This was the first from which things could and did only get much better. The senior staff consisting of two females and a male (that appeared to be the male owner / manager, a female behind the bar and a female serving) appeared indignant, irritable and at times, on the edge of exploding with rage. We felt uncomfortable and unwelcome during the entire experience. It started with rather curt and abrupt order taking from who may have been the male manager/ owner. The finale was when on leaving, our daughter paused to rearrange her jacket causing a female senior member of staff to temporarily wait who was walking behind and carrying a plate. The lady stood with a tight lipped aggressive scowl. I quickly noticed, so asked my daughter to move out the way to let the lady get past, who appeared on the verge of exploding with rage. The lady passed by with no acknowledgment, even though I tried to be kind by acknowledging she had been held up. The food was expensive and average. In fairness, the junior members of staff were really nice and a complete contrast to the three senior members who were simply rude.
