The Punchbowl Hotel

To say this is a hotel is a total misrepresentation. It’s a working man’s pub with 2 rooms situated on a busy main road. We checked-in but then didn’t stay for long so we left and stayed elsewhere! Of all the places to stay in the Lake District I’d say this must be one of the worst! Sorry that’s a bit blunt but that’s how I felt and it is not a hotel!

This was my second stay at the Punch Bowl. There are two rooms called Helm and Natland. The Natland is the best as it is nearer to the back, lovely views out of the window. A lovely, comfy, homely room, well stocked tea, coffee and the owners always provide lovely biscuits and also a bottle of water for each guest. A nice comfy bed, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. Extremely clean, walk in shower in the bathroom. Lovely fluffy towels. We had our meals there on both nights, generous portions and empty plates. The apple crumble is delicious. Staff are lovely. Breakfast is a good choice, porridge, yogurts, cooked breakfast including vegetarian. Nothing is too much trouble.The weather wasn't too bad either. Will definitely be back!

Excellent place to eat, the food has always been well prepared and cooked, surroundings and staff excellent, have eaten here 3 times now different meal each time all excellent and ample portions to boot. It can get quite busy so probably best to book a table. Recommended

We stayed with friends for the first time at the Punch Bowl for the weekend . We were welcomed with open arms by the owners from the word go they could not do enough for us . All the staff were very friendly and obliging, wonderful! The rooms were lovely everything we needed was there , comfy bed and a great shower . The food was magnificent and plenty of it ! In short a fantastic stay ! Thank you all . We will be back !

Stayed here for 2 nights, ideally located for local attractions. The Punchbowl is not far from the M6 and just a short distance from Kendal. There is an Asda store just before Kendal, in case you forget something for your break. We were staying in the Lake District for a family wedding and staff were fine about us being back late. I would highly recommend a stay at the Punchbowl, Lynn and her staff are great, nothing was too much trouble. We arrived on the Friday and had our evening meal there. Portions are generous, chef did me a salad as I'm fussy and didn't want any of the vegetarian options. My Aunt and cousin also joined us for dinner and they enjoyed their meals as well. Our room was lovely, very clean, homely and everything that you need. The bed was really comfortable and had a lovely view out of the window. Breakfast is included and you have a choice of juice, cereals, yogurt,cooked breakfast(including vegetarian), also scrambled eggs and salmon, porridge etc. I asked for poached eggs on the last morning which were lovely. The toast was good as well. You are given a warm welcome and a warm goodbye. I have booked again to stay with a friend.
