Royal Son Bou Family Club

We have just returned from our second holiday to this fantastic hotel and we are already looking to book again next year. This hotel is excellent for young children, the kids club is brilliant. We had a day of bad weather and rain and the children’s entertainers went out their way to keep the children busy all day. Anna is brilliant and remembered my two little boys names all week, we felt so welcome. The beach is just a short walk and is beautiful, the hotel has a box to share buckets and spades to take to the beach. The food is good, lots of choice for picky children. We had all inclusive and found the all day snack bar excellent for snacks and sandwiches. George in the main restaurant was brilliant and remembered all week that I had oat milk in my morning coffee, those little things mean a lot! Mahón airport is only about 20 mins away, it was first drop off with jet2. This is so helpful travelling with young children. We can’t fault it and will be back again.

This hotel is, I would say, exceptional. I love the way the apartment is set out. Cooking facilities, small hob, microwave, fridge and all the utensils, plates, glasses, pans etc. Always plenty of hot water. Shower over the bath. Lots of storage and good sized rooms. Lovely lounge with table and chairs and patio doors to balcony. All the staff are always smiling and very helpful and willing to help you. This is a family orientated hotel, even though there were older people there like myself. I went with my daughter and granddaughter (4 years old). My granddaughter loved the children’s entertainment and Kikoland. The food is good and plenty to suit every taste. I had a salmon steak cooked from fresh on two occasions which was brill. I went on a hotel planned walk, but unfortunately I was the only one who turned up! It was a really good walk into the mountain near the beach and to a gorgeous cove and very enjoyable. There are plenty of excursions to pick from at the Hotel. I’d recommend the Mahon one which includes cheese tasting and a visit to Punta Prima and Binibeca. There are buses which run to Mahon. I think they are every two hours there and back (I paid 2.6 euros each way) and you can get the bus across the road from the hotel outside a place called Kit Cat Bar. I think they ran more frequently from June 1st. Plenty of supermarkets and places to eat nearby. There is a little tunnel from the hotel to the beach. The beach is really nice, and the sea is very clear. I’d certainly stay at this hotel again.

We researched long and hard before booking the Royal Son Bou. All in all a fantastic stay which we all enjoyed. This was close to a five star review, I’ll start with the endless positives and then go into a few areas of improvement (nothing drastic!) Everyone who works in the hotel is fantastic, from the reception, cleaners, bar/ restaurant and entertainment staff. They made us feel so welcome and operate at such a high standard in what they do, a credit to the hotel. Plenty of family activities such as trogloland (caves) / farm which was wonderful to do together and enjoyable for the adults too. The kids club was really well organised and loads going on, never a dull day up at Kikoland. Our room was cleaned very well during our stay, our cleaner very friendly! We accidentally dropped a glass one evening and reception sent a cleaner at the speed of light to help clear up. Super impressed. The restaurants were busy at peak times but we could always find a table and plenty of food options. Again the restaurant team worked really hard, there immediately to take drink orders and fast to clear plates etc. Really liked how they had a children’s food section (our daughter super fussy!) - plus plastic dinnerware for the kids. There was also a crèche to use outside the main restaurant, we didn’t use it but it was well staffed and was just outside the main restaurant, a real perk for those with young children/ babies. The hotel in general has small adaptations to include children, such as steps at the reception desk and for them to order ice cream etc. A small step in the apartment bathroom would be a good addition! The hotel provides pool towels so no need to bring your own. Overall these small things like these make your holiday a lot easier. The entertainment team were next level, from the endless fun at Kikoland, to the trips to the caves/ farms and then the evening entertainment. These folks never seem to tire, amazing work! Our little one enjoyed the bouncy castle, face painting and all the colouring, sticking/ gluing up the most. We could always find sunbeds and liked having two different pool areas to choose from. The reuse box next to the kids pool area is a great idea, with departing guesting leaving loads of toys for future families. Check here for buckets, spades etc. Really not far at all to the beach (one of the main reasons for booking) really easy path from the hotel and the beach itself was lovely. A few cons to the stay, the fluctuating water temperature in the room going from freezing to hot did make showering tricky, opting for more baths. We had the fire alarm go off a few times during our stay, during the day fine but during the night/ early morning not ideal with a young child. Finally the rooms are super functional but could do with an update to keep up with the times… Nothing to do with the hotel but when we travelled in May and due to bus timetables the number 32 bus was always packed. Make sure you are prepared

Nous avons passé un séjour parfait du début à la fin. Notre chambre avec vue sur mer était spacieuse, propre et adaptée pour une famille de quatre. Le service de nettoyage était impeccable et les serviettes ont été changées 2 fois dans la semaine. ✨️ Côté restauration, la variété et la qualité étaient au rendez-vous : des produits frais locaux, des grillades, des fromages et des pâtisseries délicieuses. La piscine, bien que grande. Le club enfant avec ses animateurs et multiples activités était un vrai plus (balade en poney) Nous avons aussi utilisé le service de blanchisserie pour 15 € et c'était impeccable. Le linge est revenu propre, sans tâche et bien rangé. Nous recommandons chaudement ! ☀️☀️☀️☀️ Attention : pas de parking à l'hôtel (peut-être problématique en haute saison)

Firstly all staff throughout hotel were very friendly. Reception staff very helpful. The tour guides aswell in the lobby will set you right for your tours, very happy experience kayaking go to them for your tours. The food was good and loads of it, drinks too alcoholic and alcohol free. The pool was great with vigilant attentive staff. The room cleaners did a grand job. Beach is a stones throw from the resort. There are alot of steps so if you have any disabilities with movement get a ground floor apartment, there is wheelchair access, but get a ground floor by specific requests.

Vorab: Wir waren als Familie (Kinder 3 und 5 Jahre alt) im Zeitraum vom 12.05.-26.05.2024 vor Ort. Hotel/Anlage/Umgebung In Bewertungen liest man häufig, dass die Anlage etwas in die Jahre gekommen ist. Das stimmt zwar (das privat geführte Hotel feiert dieses Jahr 35. Geburtstag) und die Gebäude wirken natürlich nicht modern, aber dennoch war alles gut in Schuss und es war keinerlei gravierender Instandhaltungsstau erkennbar. Es gibt eine große Poolanlage und einen Kinderpool. Letzterer ist in Teilen etwas unübersichtlich und es gibt dort auch keine Badeaufsicht, sodass wir (mit zwei Kleinkindern) nicht lange völlig sorgenfrei entspannen konnten. Grundsätzlich können die Kinder auch im Kikoland betreut werden. Das Kikoland ist eine größere Spielanlage mit Hüpfburg, Fußballplatz, Babybereich, Schaukeln, Rutschen usw. und hat unseren Kindern sehr gut gefallen. Es gibt viele Möglichkeiten und das Animationsteam bietet darüber hinaus immer sehr gut organisiertes Programm (Schminken, Spiele, Tattoos usw.). Der Weg zum Strand ist nicht weit, allerdings nicht asphaltiert, sondern eher ein Schotterweg. Dadurch muss man auf Buggy verzichten und schleppt doch recht viel Zeug (inkl. Kinder). Der Strandabschnitt ist schön, allerdings öffentlich bzw. nicht Hotel-eigen (also auch kein Hotelservice, Liegen kostenpflichtig mit 10 Euro pro Tag), sodass man bei All-in Paket immer hin und hergehen muss. Die Gebirgshänge bzw. die gesamte Bucht inkl. Strand sind einerseits schön. Die nächste Umgebung hat andererseits leider ein paar Schönheitsflecken. Bei den nahegelegenen Geschäften sind doch recht viele Leerstände und leider, leider wurden zwei riesige Hotelblöcke in die Bucht gesetzt, die das Gesamtbild tatsächlich sehr stören (siehe Fotos). Service / Angebot / Unterhaltung Hervorzuheben ist auf jeden Fall das Kinderprogramm bzw. der Einsatz des Animationsteams. Das Team ist sowohl ausreichend groß als auch sehr motiviert. Insbesondere das Kinderprogramm (inkl. Minidisco) ist super organisiert und vielfältig. Unbedingt den Ausflug ins Trogloland unternehmen - siehe Foto! Abendprogramm für Erwachsene hatten wir nicht immer gesehen, war aber auch recht abwechslungsreich und jedes Mal unterhaltsam (Zauber, Tanz, Musik, Akrobatik usw.). Verpflegung (Essen/Trinken) Wir hatten nur HP, was für uns insofern auch sinnvoll war, dass wir häufiger am öffentlichen Strand war (kein Service). Hätten wir All-In gehabt, hätte ich mich wohl ein wenig über fehlenden Getränke-Service (zumindest fehlte der an den Pools) und auch die Snack-Möglichkeiten (nicht so lecker) geärgert. Insgesamt fanden wir aber auch das Essen (im Restaurant) abwechslungsreich und gut. Die Räumlichkeiten bzw. das Ambiente beim Essen könnte etwas wohliger sein, da könnte man bei der Einrichtung etwas nachbessern. Fazit Also für Familien mit kleinen Kindern absolut zu empfehlen.
