Dione Apartments by Dimore in Sicily Ortigia

Our stay at Dione Apartments exceeded our expectations. The location was as we had planned and expected – very near the north end and “entrance” into Ortigia from mainland Siracusa. All of the primary tourist sites in Ortigia were no more than a 10-15 minute walk away and the bus/train station on the mainland was 20 minutes away. Like much of Ortigia, the apartment building is a narrow pedestrian-only “alley” and from the outside does not look very inviting. But once you enter the building, then walk up the steps to the first floor and enter the apartment you are treated to a grand surprise of entering a totally different world from out in the alley. The apartment has been fully modernized with all of its style and appliances and featured while also maintaining a bit of an authentic flavor of Ortigia with some of its decorations. One bedroom on the main floor with a very large bathroom on the other side of the main floor, and a second bedroom upstairs in a loft with its smaller bathroom right next to it. The bedrooms were a good size – not small and not large – just right. The living room/dining room/kitchen area was very spacious and very comfortable. Air conditioning worked just fine as did the large television, equipped with Netflix and Amazon Prime. The kitchen had all of the amenities one would want, but we did not use them, other than the refrigerator and microwave. This is the kind of apartment you would want to have to spend a whole week, not just four nights like we did. Germana and her team were very communicative and friendly. The pictures and description on the site here are quite good but don’t quite do it justice – it is even nicer and more comfortable than we expected. We would gladly come back to this apartment if we were to return to Ortigia someday.
