Stayed midweek for 2 nights with work. If I’m in Sheffield I always stay at another Hilton out of town, but decided to give this a try. This is a recently opened hotel that needs a serious amount of work. Reception cold and unfriendly when I got there. Asked to give a deposit before I got my keycard despite being a diamond member. The room was decently appointed but I needed a fridge to chill my bottles of water and there was none in my room. First Hilton I’ve ever stayed in that this wasn’t the case. As a diamond member I get a free alcoholic drink but there was ambiguity regarding my drink voucher whether is it a bottle of beer or a pint of beer as reception said one and the bar said another. I got a pint but no one knew of this was right or wrong. The bar and restaurant is in one room and utterly soulless. Wide open with little furniture and might as well be an IKEA showroom. Food at dinner the first night was very expensive and basically microwaved. I’d get it for half the price in London and it would be nicer. I ate out in a local Wetherspoons the next night where the food was of better quality. The breakfast was awful freezing cold both mornings, and half the restaurant set for lunch diners so you could only sit in a restricted area pushed together with all other breakfast diners and it felt crowded for a small place. They don’t even have Yorkshire Tea for breakfast in Yorkshire. The manager an American chap was all business going around, speaking to staff but not speaking to guests. I saw him several times and it is a pity he doesn’t speak to guests as I would have said the above had he asked me how my stay was. When I went to check out, there was no one on the desk, so I checked out online and left my key on the desk. Probably would have said something if someone was there, but they weren’t sadly. On a positive note, there was one nice person in the whole hotel and that was the local Yorkshire lass on breakfast. She was genuinely nice and caring in fairness. It’s a new hotel and they have a lot to teethe out, but still these issues are not good at almost £200 for 2 nights. I’ll continue to stay at the Hilton out of town when I go to Sheffield as the staff and management look after their guests and provide a good food offering. I will not return and cannot recommend.
